Phytochemical studies on the methanolic extract of Barleria prionitis Linn. collected in Luang Namtha province, Laos have led to the isolation and structural elucidation of four secondary metabolites, including two iridoid glycosides: shanzhiside methyl ester (1), barlerin (2); one sterol: stigmasterol (3); and a sterol glycoside: β-sitosterol glycoside (4). Their structures were identified by spectroscopic analyses such as 1D and 2D NMR spectra.

Hepatoprotective properties of ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Picrorhiza kurroa rhizomes were evaluated in cockerels given acetaminophen @ 500 mg/ body weight orally to induce hepatocellular damage. Ethanolic extract given @ 50 mg/kg body wt and acetaminophen helped in restoration of Hb, PCV, TEC, TLC and lymphocytes and heterophils as well as total protein, albumin and globulin, glucose, cholesterol, bilirubin and activity of AST, ALT, ALP and LDH.

Vernonia amygdalina Delile is a shrub or small tree that is mainly grown in tropical areas of Africa. In Africa, it can be used as a traditional treatment for diabetes, emesis, nausea, dermatitis, arthristis, ascariasis, stomached, anaemia, jaundice, pneumonia, fever, tonsillitis and anti-inflammatory. The studies of the chemical components have shown that V. amygdalina contains steroids, terpenoids, saponins, polyphenolics, alkaloids, cardiac glycosides, anthraquinone and coumarins.

Hai loài rau má lá sen khác nhau: Hydrocotyle bonariensis và Hydrocotyle vulgaris, được phát hiện trong thời gian gần đây ở đồng bằng sông Cửu Long. Từ nguồn nguyên liệu thu ở 2 địa phương là Tiền Giang và Cần Thơ đã trích ly, nhận danh được các chất sterol, sterol glycoside và các dibenzylbutyrolactone lignan với một vài khác biệt về cấu trúc lập thể.
