Stigma position

As yet, little is known about the effects of mental health stigma on sustainable employment. This is surprising, as mental health stigma is common, and because people with severe and common mental disorders are 7 and 3 times more likely to be unemployed, respectively, than people with no disorders.

Cotton is king of fibre crops and has economic importance worldwide and new cultivars have to be released continuously to meet the demanding needs of economic market. To meet our requirement broad genetic base is needed which is limited due to continuous usage of common parents for crossing. So the germplasm, advanced breeding lines are to be characterised for variable characters. DUS characters listed by PPV FRA, New Delhi were used for this purpose. The field studies were carried out during kharif 2017-18 at RARS, Lam.

Despite the overwhelming evidence confirming the morbidity and mortality benefits of early initiation of highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) in HIV-infected infants, some children are still disadvantaged from gaining access to care.

Rice as a cereal grain is the most widely consumed staple food for a large part of world’s human population, especially in Asia. Estimation correlation among different characters was undertaken by taking into consideration 8 CMS line and their maintainer lines. At genotypic level, grain yield per plant showed highly significant and positive correlation with date of panicle initiation, 50% panicle emergence, 100% panicle emergence, panicle per plant, no. of tillers and days of maturity and negatively correlated with pollen sterility.

The report brings home the reality that the HIV prevalence in South Africa among persons aged 2 years and older at 10.8% translates to 4.8 million people living with HIV/AIDS in 2005. Factors underpinning continued high HIV prevalence are partly illustrated by the finding that half of the respondents in this study who were found to be HIV positive did not think they were at risk of HIV infection. It considers HIV/AIDS stigma, the integration of family planning and HIV/AIDS service, and the existing HIV/AIDS communication campaigns.

Pathfinder has developed a two-way referral system for infections and serious complications. CHWs send clients to nearby health facilities with a referral note, which helps ensure that people living with HIV/AIDS are seen promptly and free-of-charge. In some cases, if the client is too weak to travel alone and has no family to accompany him, or is afraid of the stigma associated with being HIV-positive, the CHW escorts the client to the health facility.

Sexual and reproductive rights apply to all individuals regardless of HIV status. Yet more often than not, the rights of HIV-positive women and adolescent girls are not recognized or given priority. Gender inequality and some social and cultural practices often tightly restrict and sometimes control the decisions that women and girls can make regarding their sexual and reproductive choices.

The stigma of HIV often exacerbates this situation because when men die women are easily blamed for bringing HIV into the household, no matter if it is true or not. In Zambia, women working with Huairou member organization Katuba Women’s Association reported being chased out of the home after their husband’s death, as they were blamed for bringing the disease into the home, despite the husbands’ known infidelities that led to the disease.

In morocco access to antenatal services is limited and many HIV- positive pregnant women are not identified for lack of HIV testing, especially in rural areas. The fear of stigma and discrimination is a major barrier for women to get tested, both at home and in health care settings. Breast-feeding is contraindicated by the Ministry of Health (an outdated recommendation), but formula is provided in only three cities and only 56 percent of the rural population has access to safe drinking water.

At an implementation level there is a shocking lack of consistency and coordination among the donors, UN agencies and governments. Poor coordination has resulted most notably in a lack of clear and accurate guidance being provided on infant feeding options to HIV-positive mothers. In country after country, researchers were told of the widespread stigma and discrimination that HIV-positive pregnant women face, particularly in health care settings.
