This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different grain storage materials on the physical and physicochemical properties of stored wheat at different locations. The experiment included three treatments; (Purdue Improved Crop Storage (PICS), polypropylene bags, and Jute bags) at different agro-ecological locations; midland (Debrezeit), lowland (Werer), and highland (Kulumsa).

Shelf life studies of food products are gaining impetus due to the consumer awareness towards quality of the ready to cook products. The present study was designed to assess the keeping quality and shelf life of tomato powder incorporated rice based cold extrudates. The Cavatelli extrudates using ingredients: rice flour, wheat flour and tomato powder in the proportion of 36:54:10 respectively was developed and stored under room temperature. The stored samples were evaluated for sensory characteristics and microbial assay at regular intervals for 60 days.

Laboratory experiments were carried out to study the biology of Sitophilus oryzae on four different wheat germplasms such as (DPW-62150, DBW-39, GW-322, and K-0307). It was found that the different developmental stages of rice weevil were longer during the winter season as compared to the summer season. As lowest incubation period of 3±0.47 days was recorded from DPW-62150 while the longest one from DBW-39 with 5.44±0.42 days.

Phytin, or myo-inositol hexakisphosphate (InsP6), is stored form of phosphorus (P) seeds of cereals and legumes. It has a strong tendency to chelate metallic cations Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Mn and Zn and form insoluble complexes which renders them unavailable to animals or humans fed on seed diet. The undigested P is released in excreta and spreads as manure into the soil causing eutrophication of water bodies also due to run off.

The methanol extract from leaves of Saraca indica was investigated to control insect infestation of stored food commodities viz. maize, rice, cowpea and wheat flour during from Ostrinia nubilalis, Spodoptera littoralis, Callosobruchus maculates and Tribolium confusum. After introducing the test insects, stored food samples were fumigated with methanol extract from leaves of Saraca indica at 500 μg/mL (ppm). The methanol extract significantly enhanced feeding deterrence in insects and reduced the grain damage as well as weight loss in fumigated food samples infested with all insects.

Minced meat fish Lizard fish (Saurida tumbil) was subjected to steam cooking and acid hydrolysis process and dried up to moisture content of 6- 7%. Fish powder obtained from both methods were incorporated in to a cereal mix containing malted and roasted wheat and ragi powder at different percentage (10%, 15%, 20% and 25%) separately. Prepared health mix were stored at ambient temperature and its storage characteristics such as biochemical composition, nutritional, functional, microbiological parameters and organoleptical attributes were analyzed up to 90 days.

Post-harvest losses due to stored product insects have been estimated to be up to 9 per cent in developed countries to 20 per cent or more in developing countries (Phillips and Thorne, 2010). Beside the quantitative loss, the insect infestation in wheat grains reduce germination and produce unpleasant odour, dirty appearance and abhorrent taste due to contamination with insect fragments and excrement. The post- harvest losses of food grains in India were 7-10 per cent of the total production from farm to market level and 4-5 per cent at market and distribution levels.

An experiment was conducted at the farmer field village- Majitha, District- Jabalpur during the rabi season of 2016-17 and 2017-18. A field experiment was conducted during winter season to find out the biomass production and carbon storage by weeds, wheat crop and tree under eucalyptus based agroforestry system in randomized block design with three replications. The result revealed that the weed management practices increase the crop biomass production and reduce the weeds biomass. The biomass production was higher in agroforestry system than crop alone or tree alone.

A pot experiment was conducted in the green house of GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology Pantnagar, to study the percent distribution of Zn on plant parts of four wheat varieties (UP 262, UP 2628. PBW 175 and UP2554) having varying Zn sensitivity at different growth stages. The soil used for pot experiment had sandy loam texture, 7.2 pH, 0.9% organic carbon and 0.47 mg DTPA extractable Zn per kg soil. Each pot received recommended dose of 25 mg N, 11.2 mg P and 20.75 mg K kg-1 soil.

Experiments were conducted to development, quality evaluation and storage stability of multi- flour noodles made from wheat flour, soya bean flour, carrot powder, mushroom flour and apple pomace powder. The noodles were formulated by taking different proportion of multi-flours in the ratio of (T100) 100:0:0:0:0, (T90) 90:2.5:2.5:2.5:2.5, (T80) 80:5.0:5.0:5.0:5.0, (T70) 70:7.5:7.5:7.5:7.5, (T60) 60:10:10:10:10 and (T50) 50:12.5:12.5:12.5:12.5 respectively. Wheat flour of the ratio of 100:0:0:0:0 was considered as control.

Soil potential to stock organic carbon was appraised in hot sub-humid dry agro ecological region (AER 9) of Indo-Gangetic plains with alluvium derived soils i.e. old alluvium with growing period of 150-180 days. The study region is located in South Bihar and it was surveyed for prevailing land uses. There were six land uses viz., rice-wheat-fallow system systems, maize-potato-fallow system, red gram, sugarcane, mango orchard and agroforestry found prominent in the region. Five representative sites in each land use were selected for sampling in Jehanabad and Gaya district in south Bihar.

The spring wheat straws used in the experiments were cultivated in Jokioinen, Finland, in summer 2006 (06Straw), 2007 (07Straw) and 2008 (08Straw). The wheat varieties were Kruunu in 2006, Marble in 2007 and Kruunu in 2008. The wheat was grown on a sandy clay field in Jokioinen, Finland (60°49'12"N, 23°28'12"E). The 06straw was used in the hot water treatment temperature optimisation and the 07straw in the mechanical refining experiments. 06Straw and 07Straw were used in the optimisation of alkaline peroxide bleaching.

The main objective of this work is to develop an economically viable process for producing papermaking fibres of adequate quality and generating energy from wheat straw. Wheat straw was selected as the raw material since wheat is cultivated and available worldwide (Curtis 2002) and only a minor part of the straw is used for energy production or animal feed. One of the primary aims in this work is to find ways to store the raw material chemically between the harvesting periods and examine the effects on pulping and pulp properties (Paper IV). In addition, the aim of this work is...
