This paper presents a numerical investigation of flow characteristics of yield stress fluid over a confined cylinder at Re=50-100. Sediment suspension with kaolinite mass concentration from c=15-28.5% are targeted.

Photoelasticity images of pulsed laser ablation in water and in air were simulated by Finite Element Method. In the paper "Compare transient stress induced in in-air and in-water laser ablation using simulation method", the Von Mises stress distribution in the target is deduced from the simulated images and is compared between the two-ablation regimes. The result confirms that pulse laser ablation in the water can induced a stress about 100 times higher than that induced in ablation in the air.

This paper proves that, given a Load-Induced Thermal Strain (LITS) curve able to accurately describe the uniaxial LITS development for a specific type of concrete and temperatures up to 500 °C, a more accurate prediction of the 3D LITS state is obtained through a confinement-dependent 3D implementation than through the classic confinement-independent approach.

Carpet grass [Axonopus compressus (L.)] is an important warm-season perennial grass around the world and is known for its adaptability to varied environmental conditions. However, Carpet grass lacks enough data in public data banks, which confined our comprehension of the mechanisms of environmental adaptations, gene discovery, and development of molecular markers.

Forest species ranges are confined by environmental limitations such as cold stress. The natural range shifts of pine forests due to climate change and proactive-assisted population migration may each be constrained by the ability of pine species to tolerate low temperatures, especially in northern latitudes or in high altitudes.

Heat stress is a form of non fever hyperthermia occurs when heat load exceeds than the heat loss from the body. The body temperature reaches above 105 – 106˚ F, often complicated by changes in other body system such as acid-base balance, kidney, liver, cerebral edema and blood clotting mechanism. More common in brachycephalic breeds, long thick hairy breeds, young ones and aged animals. Physical examination is marked by excessive hyperemia, panting, hypersalivation, tachycardia, and various neurologic signs.

Nondestructive inspection (NDI) is an integral part of structural integrity analyses of dry storage casks that house spent nuclear fuel. One significant concern for the structural integrity is stress corrosion cracking in the heat-affected zone of welds in the stainless steel canister that confines the spent fuel. In situ NDI methodology for detection of stress corrosion cracking is investigated, where the inspection uses a delivery robot because of the presence of the harsh environment and geometric constrains inside the cask protecting the canister.

welding secrets explains why a weld bead shrinks more where it stops than it does where it starts. pictures of test welds show the difference between "free expansion" and "confined expansion". it explains how stresses, caused by a weld made under confined expansion, can harm the workpiece.

This is the story of how one of the new natural language processing products reached the marketplace. On the surface, it is the story of one NL researcherturned-entrepreneur (yours truly) and of one product, Q&A. But this is not just my story: It is in microcosm the story of NL emerging from the confines of the academic world, which in turn is an instance of the old theme "science goes commercial."

The rock mass around an underground opening is subjected to a unique stress path that results in low radial confinement and both tangential loading and unloading conditions near the wall. As a result, the rock mass strength near underground excavations is controlled by failure mechanisms dominating at low confinement. Hence, when constructing underground works in hard rock, two general scenarios are encountered: (1) structurally controlled gravity-driven failures; and (2) stress-induced failure with spalling and slabbing....
