The purpose of this work is to offer a method for detecting structural damage utilizing the standardized index of the beam's deflection influence line difference as input data for the evaluation procedure. This article presents an improved procedure for detecting single damage in beam-like structures. Many damage detection methods are based on the analysis of beam natural frequency shifts in damaged and intact states and its analytical modal curvatures. They identify the damage by constructing curves of damage coefficients along the beam and visually determining the point of their mutual intersection.

In this paper, the implementation of the PZT interface technique for monitoring strand breakage in a prestressed concrete anchorage zone is presented. First, the fundamental of the PZT interface for impedance monitoring is briefly reviewed. Second, a FE (finite element) analysis of a multi-strand concrete anchorage equipped with an array of PZT interfaces is analyzed to obtain impedance signatures under a series of strand breakage events.

To achieve the objective, first, a post-tensioning anchorage system is equipped with arrays of ESGs (electrical strain gages) for measuring strain responses. The anchorage system is installed on the stressing system, which is used to resist prestress force from the anchorage. Second, strain responses of ESGs arrays are measured under series prestress loss cases. Third, strain variations are utilized to determine stress components sensitive to prestress force loss. Last, empirical equations for prestress loss estimation is proposed based on experimental strain data.

Periodic structural health survey is very crucial to guarantee the safety and serviceability of civil engineering structures. The study "Applications of Gaussian Steerable Filters in detecting structural damages" aims at developing a computer vision tool to detect defects on surface of civil engineering structures by means of Gaussian steerable filters. This tool has been developed with Visual C#. NET to facilitate its implementations. The developed software programs have been tested with images containing various defects such as crack, pothole, and spalling.
