A study was conducted to investigate in vitro pollen germination of four mango varieties, viz. Kesar, Alphonso, Mallika and Dudhpendo. Pollen grains were stored in three different media (n-hexane, paraffin oil and without media) under four different storage temperature (-20⁰C, -4⁰C, 4⁰C and room temperature).

The pollen grains of raspberry exhibited the average size (length x width) of 177.73 x 124.43µ in glycerol conditions, followed by (173.29 x 173.29 µ) in water suspension. The viability of fresh pollen grains ranged from 32.50 % to 97.70 % in hermaphrodite or bisexual flowers. 25 % sucrose solution + 0.4 % boric acid solution showed the highest pollen germination of 36.66% with the maximum pollen tube length (284.37µ) after 48 hours interval.

The aim of present study was to access the pollen in- vitro germination of pollen grains of five citrus species belonging to the family Rutaceae viz., mandarin (citrus. reticulata Blanco) sweet orange (C. sinensis L. Osbeck) grapefruit (C. paradisi Macf.) pummelo (C. maxima Burm. Merr.) and tangelo (C. reticulata × C. maxima or × C. paradise) under low temperature storage conditions during year 2014. Pollen germination were checked up to 48 weeks, stored at different temperatures like 4ºC, -20ºC, and -196ºC.

Litchi (Litchi chinensis sonn) is the most important fruit of the Sapindaceae family. It originated in China and is widely distributed in the tropics and subtropics (Knight, 1980). Litchi is an important sub-tropical evergreen fruit crop. Therefore, the present investigation entitled “Study of flower morphology, pollen viability, germination and their effect on fruit set in different cultivars of litchi” was carried out during 2017-18 in the Department of Horticulture (Fruit and Fruit Technology), BAC, Sabour,. For this experiment four litchi cultivars viz.

In the present investigation dry and homogeneous seeds of two varieties of sesame were irradiated with different doses of gamma rays viz. 250, 300, 350 and 400 Gy. The effect of mutagenesis or radio sensitivity of gamma rays on different biological parameters like germination (%), pollen fertility (%), shoot length, root length, plant survival are being studied in M1 generation.

Effect of seeding interval and transplanting age on seed yield and seed quality in KRH-4 hybrid rice
A field experiment was conducted during 2016 and 2017 at Agricultural Research Station, Malagi, UAS, Dharwad to know the effect of seeding interval and transplanting age on seed yield and seed quality in KRH-4 hybrid rice. The results revealed that, the transplanting of seedlings at the age of 18 days recorded the highest number of productive tillers (9.47 and 10.52), highest seed yield per hectare (838 kg, 888 kg) whereas, the early sowing of pollen parent by 2 days ensured better synchrony with higher seed set per cent (18.11 %, 18.54 %) and seed yield per hectare (1170 kg, 1225 kg).

The abnormalities noticed were both physiological and clastogenic. Fragments, stickiness of chromosomes, univalents, multivalents, and anaphase bridges were the most frequent abnormalities. The decrease in seed germination and pollen fertility was found significant at 0.05 level.

The study reveals that the plants grown in hothouse conditions showed considerable variation in the production of flowers and seeds. Flowering occurs from the second week of September to late October, with 20 days of peak flowering. Anthers dehisced longitudinally between 7:30 and 11:00 AM, strongly dependent on higher temperature.

This study was carried out to determine the effects of heavy metals (Ni, Fe, Pb, Co, Cd, Hg, Al, Zn and Cu) on pollen germination and pollen tube length in the tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabacum L.) cv. Karaba¤lar. The results showed that enhanced concentrations of heavy metals, except Fe, decreased the pollen germination rates and the pollen tube lengths.
