In the present study, the effects of different dietary protein levels on salema porgy, Sarpa salpa (Linnaeus, 1758) juveniles were investigated. As a result, S. salpa demonstrated better growth with low protein diets, showing that this marine fish could be a promising candidate for a sustainable and environment friendly aquaculture industry.

Each occupation and each type of labor in society has different characteristics. Of which, there are occupations with high specificity, where workers have to work in special environments and conditions, even very hard conditions. We aimed to evaluate the energy consumption of the soldiers during labor, military training, and work.

This study aims to investigate how nematodes’ communities variables such as diversity, sex and feeding structure alter in different 5 layers of sediment deep profile of the river bed. Our studies found for the first time that nematodes’ communities not only stay on 10 cm first layers but they can contribute until 50 cm deep in the sediment profile of the river bed.

Elucidation of intraparticle mass transfer mechanisms in protein chromatography is essential for process design. This study investigates the differences of adsorption and diffusion parameters of basic human fibroblast factor 2 (hFGF2) in a simple (purified) and a complex (clarified homogenate) feed solution on the grafted agarose-based strong cation exchanger Capto S.

Molasses is a potential energy supplement; extensively used to improve growth performance, milk and meat characteristics in goats at relatively low concentrations of 5–40% of the diet. Few data are available concerning feeding molasses to goat kids; therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with higher concentrations of molasses on growth performance, blood metabolites and rumen fermentation indices.

Several hypnotic drugs have been previously identified as modulators of food intake, but exact mechanisms remain unknown. Feeding behavior implicates several neuronal populations in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus including orexigenic neuropeptide Y and anorexigenic pro-opiomelanocortin producing neurons. The aim of this study was to investigate in mice the impact of different hypnotic drugs on food consumption and neuropeptide Y or pro-opiomelanocortine mRNA expression level in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus.

Some species are exceptionally common in landscapes heavily impacted by humans, such as agricultural lands. This study was carried out over a period of 2 years (July 2012 to June 2014) in the arid agricultural landscape of Pothwar Plateau, Pakistan, to identify adaptations that govern bird distribution and abundance across 2 different cropping systems associated with differences in water availability. We used regular surveys and foraging observations to quantify species abundance, distribution, and habits. We then examined morphological correlations with ecological attributes.

This study was designed to record some morphometric and haematological parameters of common snipe, Gallinago gallinago. For this purpose, 20 individuals (10 male, 10 female) were collected from the wetlands of District Bahawalnagar, Punjab, Pakistan. Significant differences between the sexes were recorded in tail length, length of longest primary feather, and chest circumference. . No significant difference was recorded in haematological parameters between the sexes.

Transcriptome profiling of Brassica napus stem sections in relation to differences in lignin content
Brassica crops are cultivated widely for human consumption and animal feed purposes, and oilseed rape/canola (Brassica napus and rapa) is the second most important oilseed worldwide. Because of its natural diversity and genetic complexity, genomics studies on oilseed rape will be a useful resource base to modify the quantity and quality of biomass in various crops, and therefore, should have a positive impact on lignocellulosic biofuel production.

Copy number variation (CNV) is an important type of genetic variation contributing to phenotypic differences among mammals and may serve as an alternative molecular marker to single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) for genome-wide association study (GWAS). Recently, GWAS analysis using CNV has been applied in livestock, although few studies have focused on Holstein cattle.

Delivery of colostrum within the first several hours after birth is vital for establishing successful passive immunity in neonatal dairy calves. However, it is unclear whether a difference in colostrum feeding strategy can affect the development of the calf gastrointestinal tract. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of colostrum feeding time within the first 12 h after birth on the colonic mucosal immune system in neonatal calves using a genome wide transcriptome analysis.

Cucurbit yellow stunting disorder virus (CYSDV; genus Crinivirus, Closteroviridae) is transmitted in a semipersistent manner by the whitefly, Bemisia tabaci, and is efficiently transmitted by the widely prevalent B. tabaci cryptic species, MEAM1. In this study, we compared transcriptome profiles of B. tabaci MEAM1, after 24 h, 72 h and 7 days of acquisition feeding on melon plants infected with CYSDV (CYSDV-whiteflies) with those fed on virus-free melon, using RNA-Seq technology.

To understand the genetic mechanisms of insect herbivory, the transcriptional response of insects feeding on different host plant species has to be studied. Here, we generated gene expression data of the generalist herbivore Spodoptera exigua (Hübner) feeding on three selected host plant species and a control (artificial diet).

In comparison to both single phytases, this combination has improved the hydrolytic catalysis of phytate in rice bran, corn and soybean powder; resulted in higher amount of inorganic phosphate released in two phases – in vitro digestion. Further studies of this combination on monogastric animals shall be carried on to confirm the synergic effect of these two phytases.
