The comparative study of the content and structure characteristics of fucoidans from five Sargassum brown seaweed species in the south provinces of Vietnam was conducted. The yield of fucoidans was ca. 4% (w/w) based on dry seaweed. The percentage of sulfate and uronic acid content was determined by Scott method. Fucoidans were hydrolyzed with trifluoroacetic acid, acetylated and their L-fucose, D-xylose, D-rhamnose, D-mannose, D-glucose, and D-galactose contents were identified by gas chromatography. All polysaccharides isolated from Sargassum polycystum C. Agardh, S. mcclurei Setchell, S.

In this paper, a biologically active substance of Lingzhi mushroom was studied. The optima process seperating (1,3)-B-D-glucan from Ganoderma lucidum has been formed and the molecular weight of the preparation is estimated. The structure of (1,3)- -D-glucan unit and its properties are characterized by using HyperChem 7.02 software.

Starch defines a semicrystalline polymer made of two different polysaccharide fractions. The A- and B-type crystalline lattices define the distinct structures reported in cereal and tuber starches, respectively. Amylopectin, the major fraction of starch, is thought to be chiefly responsible for this semicrystalline organization while amylose is generally considered as an amorphous polymer with little or no impact on the overall crystalline organization.

Bacteroides vulgatus has been shown to be involved in the aggravation of colitis. Previously, we separated two potent virulence factors, capsular polysaccharide (CPS) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS), from a clinical isolate of B. vulgatus and characterized the structure of CPS. In this study, we elucidated the structures of O-antigen polysaccharide (OPS) and lipid A in the LPS. LPS was subjected to weak acid hydrolysis to produce the lipid A fraction and polysaccharide fraction.

The structure of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of Pseudomonas aeruginosa immunotype 1 was studied after mild acid and strong alkaline degradations by MS and NMR spectroscopy. Three types of LPS molecules were found, including those with an unsubstituted glycoform 1 core (A) or an isomeric glycoform 2 core substituted with one O-polysaccharide repeating unit (B) or with a long-chain O-polysaccharide. Therefore, of two core glycoforms, only glycoform 2 accepts the O-polysaccharide. LPS molecules, an O-acetyl group is present in the outer core region at unknown position....

The O-specific polysaccharide ofCitrobacter braakiiPCM 1531 (serogroupO6) was isolated bymild acid hydrolysis of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and found to containD-fucose, L-rhamnose, 4-deoxy-D-arabino-hexose andO-acetyl groups in molar ratios 2 : 1 : 1 : 1. On the basis of methylation analysis and 1 Hand13 C NMR spectroscopy data, the structure of the branched tetrasaccharide repeating unit of theO-specific polysaccharidewas established.

Aeromonas salmonicidais a pathogenic aquatic bacterium and the causal agent of furunculosis in salmon. In the course of this study, it was found that when grownin vitro on tryptic soy agar,A. salmonicidastrain 80204-1 produced a capsular polysaccharide with the identical structure to that of the lipopolysaccharide O-chain polysaccharide.

A recent study that examined multiple strains ofCampylobacter jejuni reported that HS:19, a serostrain that has been associated with the onset of Guillain–Barre´ syndrome, had unidentified labile, capsular polysaccharide (CPS) structures. In this study, we expand on this observation by using current glyco-analytical technologies to characterize these unknown groups.

This study investigated the effects of two highly sulfated polysaccharides, calcium pentosan polysulfate and heparin, on the loss of newly synthesized proteoglycans from the matrix of explant cultures of bovine tendon. The tensional region of deep flexor tendon was incubated with [ 35 S]sulfate for 6 h and then placed in culture for up to 15 days.
