  • Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) has many favored nutritional and agronomic traits, which makes it appropriate for cultivation and consumption all around the world. Genomic resources for proso millet are still very limited but the set of genomic data is improving. In this study, we genotyped six Slovenian landraces of proso millet (P. miliaceum L.) along with one Slovene autochthonous cultivar, Sonček. The chosen set of 11 SSR markers showed that there is low overall heterozygosity (0.561) among Slovenian landraces of proso millet.

  • In this study, the catalytic activity and stability of flowerlike hybrid horseradish peroxidase (HRP) nanobiocatalyst (HRPCu2+) obtained from Cu2+ ions and HRP enzyme in the polymerization reaction of guaiacol were analyzed. We demonstrated that HRP-Cu2+ and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) initiator showed significantly increased catalytic activity and stability on the polymerization of guaiacol compared to that of free HRP enzyme. Poly(guaiacol) was observed with quite high yields (88%) and molecular weights (38,000 g/mol) under pH 7.

  • Studying the dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) is important for understanding the carbon stabilization into different pools. Thus, a 25-year old experiment was used to assess the impact of double rice cropping system with addition of organics and grades of fertilization on labile carbon pools and crop yield sustainability in an Inceptisol in southern India. The total water stable aggregates (WSA) in the experimental soils ranged from 70.4 to 94.9% under different treatments.

  • Twenty one pigeonpea genotypes were evaluated at four environments during kharif 2018-19, to study genotype × environment interaction for yield and its contributing traits. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replication. Analysis of variance in each environment and on a pooled basis expressed a significant difference among genotypes for yield and yield contributing characters except for branches per plant and seeds per pod.

  • The chickpea crop is highly sensitive to temperature and other climate condition. Genotype × environment interaction (G x E) is a major constraint to identify single superior genotype for a number of variable environments. Present study was undertaken for estimation of the impact of G x E interaction on seed yield of chickpea and to identify relatively stable genotypes across environments using 40 chickpea genotypes. Data were collected on twelve yield related traits.

  • A field experiment was conducted to evaluate 30 basmati rice genotypes for their stability for yield and yield attributing traits over three growing seasons. Fifteen randomly selected plants were sampled in the middle row of each plot and were used for the analysis. The study indicated that environment + (genotype x environment) was significant for all the characters studied thereby validating the distinctness of the environments considered. The GXE (linear) was highly significant for all the traits considered.

  • Management of crop diseases by biological control is an alternative and effective approach with minimum deleterious effect on environment and human health for ecosystem stability leading to improvement in crop yields. The present study was undertaken to characterize antagonistic rhizosphere bacteria against phytopathogenic fungi i.e., Neovossia indica and Rhizoctonia solani, which cause Karnal bunt and root rot disease, respectively. Twenty two rhizobacterial isolates out of total 88 isolates obtained from wheat rhizosphere, 25% isolates inhibited the growth of both R. solani and N.

  • The study was carried out for utilization of papaya fruit cv. Madhu for preparation of foam mat dried fruit powder. The conversion of papaya pulp into foam was optimized by whipping the pulp after addition of glycerol-mono-stearate (GMS) and drying the resultant foam in dehydrator (60±5°C) to constant moisture content. Drying of papaya foam by using 3% GMS results in 11.93 per cent yield and was found the most appropriate with respect to desired foaming properties (foam density, foam expansion and foam stability), physico-chemical as well as sensory characteristics.

  • High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) is an important marker of inflammation to predict the risk of CVDs. Existing reagent system for the detection of hs CRP has its limitation such as higher cost and requirement of sophisticated instruments, which minimize the utility of this effective marker utility in Indian population. The study was aimed to formulate and validate an improved reagent system for the detection of hs CRP. The study was targeted to formulate a latex-enhanced reagent format by selecting inert microscopic latex particles.
