It is estimated that the fU,nctionally significant body of knowledge for a given medical specialty changes radically every 8 years. New specialties and "sub-specialization" are occurring at approximately an equal rate. Historically, established journals have not been able either to absorb this increase in publishable material or to extend their readership to the new specialists.

HIV worsens the nutritional status by increasing the body’s requirement for food and also leads to opportunistic infections, which in turn, increase body nutrition requirements. The objective was to assess nutrient intake, nutrient status and nutritional status and establish the infection pattern of HIV seropositive patients attending a Comprehensive Care Clinic.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and nutrition status of human are linked to HIV infection and poor nutrient intake can speed the disease progress. Both macro-and micronutrient deficiencies could impair host immune functions and promote viral replication and pathogenicity, thus potentially affecting the clinical course of HIV infection.

The objective of the study was to report the incidence and risk factors associated with positive urine bacterial cultures as well as long-term outcome in cats with subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) devices. Results: Medical records of cats that underwent SUB device placement were retrospectively reviewed.

Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has the highest number of people living with HIV/AIDS, with Nigeria, South Africa, and Uganda accounting for 48% of new infections. A systematic review of the HIV burden among women engaged in sex work (WESW) in 50 low- and middle-income countries found that they had increased odds of HIV infection relative to the general female population.

Dengue is the most important mosquito-borne, human viral disease in many tropical and sub-tropical areas. India is endemic for Dengue infection. The purpose of this Study was to evaluate the occurrence of dengue fever among clinically suspected patients. We report a retrospective analysis of the dengue positivity in the serum samples tested during December, 2011 to November, 2012.

Eleven new human polyomaviruses (HPyVs) have been identified in the last decade. Serological studies show that these novel HPyVs sub-clinically infect humans at an early age. The routes of infection, entry pathways, and cell tropism of new HPyVs remain unknown.

A female jersey dairy calf of three months old under intensive management presented with normal appetence but emaciation and stunted growth was diagnosed with subclinical parasitism by the tapeworm, Moniezia expansa and intestinal coccidia, Eimeria bovis diagnosed by faecal examination. Laboratory investigation revealed remarkable alterations in biochemical values however no changes in haematological values.

The clinical management of children with suspected CNS infections across the Mersey region is heterogeneous and often sub-optimal, particularly for the investigation and treatment of viral encephalitis. National guidelines for the management of viral encephalitis are needed.

Data on the prevalence of renal and urine abnormalities among HIV-infected children in Sub-Saharan Africa are limited. We set out to determine the prevalence of proteinuria; low estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), urinary tract infection and associated factors among HIV-infected antiretroviral therapy (ART) naive children, aged 2–12 years, attending the paediatric HIV clinic at a tertiary hospital in Harare.

Early infant diagnosis of HIV infection is challenging in rural sub-Saharan Africa as blood samples are sent to central laboratories for HIV DNA testing, leading to delays in diagnosis and treatment initiation. Simple technologies to rapidly deliver results to clinics and notify mothers of test results would decrease many of these delays.

The present study was aimed to determine prevalence and etiology of sub clinical mastitis in an organized buffalo dairy farm of LUVAS, Hisar, India along with antibiogram against their respective causative organisms. A total of 401 quarter milk samples were collected from 102 apparently healthy buffaloes. According to the IDF criteria the percent animal wise prevalence of sub clinical mastitis on the basis of somatic cell count (SCC) (>500000/ml) was 2.94, whereas on the basis of cultural examination it was 29.41. However, the quarter wise percent prevalence was 18.20 and 0.

Small ruminant farming serves as a major source of livelihood in rural areas where about 70% of the population is dependent on agricultural and livestock related activity. In spite of so high potential of these animals, production is significantly constrained due to disease caused by variety of pathogens that include bacteria, virus, protozoa and helminths. Among all these pathogens, parasites are the major cause of sub clinical cases which are not readily diagnosed in field conditions hence affecting production and economic status.

The clinical manifestations of schistosomiasis pass by acute, sub acute and chronic stages that mirror the immune response to infection. The later includes in succession innate, TH1 and TH2 adaptive stages, with an ultimate establishment of concomitant immunity. Some patients may also develop late complications, or suffer the sequelae of co-infection with other parasites, bacteria or viruses. Acute manifestations are species-independent; occur during the early stages of invasion and migration, where infection-naivety and the host’s racial and genetic setting play a major role.

The genetic markers in inflammatory responses during mastitis afford a reasonable way for improving milk production in the Egyptian buffalo breed. Among them is the interleukin 8 Receptor Gene (IL8RB) (CXCR2); a chemokine receptor gene augments the neutrophil migration during infection. To understand its role better during mastitis in Egyptian buffalos, twenty-five dairy animals representing the normal, sub-clinically, clinically and chronically affected buffalos were randomly selected from different districts.

Immunosuppression significantly decreases the ability of young poultry to respond effectively to standard vaccinations, and also predisposes them to infection by other specific pathogens. How- ever, sub-clinical immunosuppression is often not readily appar- ent to the farmer, and therefore a common “silent” cause of significant economic losses. Pathogens causing such infectious disease conditions are termed “erosive” for site productivity (Shane, 2004).

Diagnosis of acute pediatric sinusitis must be made on the basis of signs, symptoms, and clinical examination. Laboratory tests may be normal even in complicated sinusitis (Pitkäranta et al. 1999; Hytönen et al. 2000), and radiolog- ical fi ndings do not necessarily correlate with a child’s clinical condition. Pathological fi ndings are frequently found in plain radiographs, CT, and MRI of children with common colds, and also in children without symptoms of a respi- ratory infection (Kronemer and McAlister 1997; American Academy of Pediatrics 2001; Schwartz et al.

Of the 40 million persons living with HIV/AIDS to-date, over 60 percent reside in sub-Saharan Africa, making it the most affected region of the world, Figure 1 (1;2). HIV infection rate is still on the increase. In 2006 alone of the estimated world total of 4.3 million (3.6 – 6.6 million) new HIV infections, sub-Saharan Africa was estimated to have 2.8 million (2.4 – 3.2 million) adults and children infected with HIV. This was more than all other regions of the world combined together (2). The 2.1 million AIDS deaths in sub-Saharan Africa represented 72% of global AIDS death (2)....
