This study demonstrates the potential of feruloylated arabinoxylan (AX) from wheat bran for the preparation of bioactive barrier films with antioxidant properties. We have comprehensively evaluated the influence of the structural features and chemical acetylation of feruloylated AX extracted by subcritical water on their film properties, in comparison with alkaline extracted AX and a reference wheat endosperm AX.

The potential isolation of bio-active polysaccharides from bay tree pruning waste was studied using sequential subcritical water extraction using different time-temperature combinations. The extracted polysaccharides were highly enriched in pectins while preserving their high molecular mass (10–100 kDa), presenting ideal properties for its application as additive in food packaging.

The nonlinear stability analysis of a supercritical light water reactor (SCLWR) is presented using a nuclearcoupled thermal-hydraulic reduced-order model. The analytical model is developed by coupling 1. the pointkinetics equations with one group of delayed neutrons, 2. the fuel heat transfer and 3. a 1-D reduced order model which represents the heat absorption phenomenon during the coolant flow.

The optimum subcritical water extraction condition was obtained at 120 ºC in 45 min. Better functional properties were observed in subcritical water extraction products that indicated this method can be applied as a novel alternative technique to modify the properties of rice proteins isolate for the functional purposes in future.

In this study, conversion of seaweeds into hydrochars was investigated with the aim of obtaining a renewable energy feedstock. The seaweeds Fucus serratus and Alaria esculenta, and a mixture of seaweeds, mainly consisting of Cystoseria sp. and Laurencia sp., were subjected to hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) in subcritical water at three different temperatures: 200, 225, and 250 °C. Fuel characteristics and chemical properties of the derived hydrochars were determined using the standard fuel analysis and spectroscopic methods.

Flow-induced heat transfer deterioration can be delayed by increasing system pressure or lowering sink temperature. Bulk temperature level throughout the loop with water as working fluid is higher than supercritical carbon dioxide. This is until the heat transfer deterioration, and hence the use of a single-phase loop is prescribed beyond that limit.
