  • A study was conducted to ensure the impact of subsurface drainage system on salt affected soils in the UKP command area, Karnataka. The in-situ hydraulic conductivity with average of 0.067 m d-1 before sowing, and improved slightly (14.92%) after the harvesting to 0.077 m d-1 .

  • Constructed wetlands (CWs) have been used to treat various types of wastewaters such as urban runoff, acid mine drainage, municipal, industrial, and livestock wastewaters. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of two constructed wetlands (surface and horizontal subsurface flows) for piggery wastewater treatment after biogas process. The wetland plant Phragmites australis Cav. was used in two CWs. The flow rate of the CWs was 100 liters/day with the hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 3 days.

  • Studies on subsurface drainage were carried out on silty clay and clay soils in Gundur village from 2015 to 2016. The mean pH of samples ranged from 8.16 to 8.35 before sowing and 8.21 to 8.41 after harvesting and before sowing the electrical conductivity ranged from 10.92 to 14.65 dS m-1 and 9.28 to 13.68 dS m-1 after harvesting.

  • The introduction of irrigated agriculture in the arid and semi-arid regions of India has resulted in the development of twin problems of waterlogging and salinity. The problems also occurred in the valley bottoms of the Tungabhadra Irrigation Project (TBP). The subsurface drainage system was installed at 40, 50 and 60 m drain spacing to reclaim the salt affected soils in an area of 50 ha in the farmers’ fields at Mallapur village, Sidhanur taluk, Karnataka.

  • The treated industrial wastewater has been, continuously used for crop production in the water scares region of our country. Irrigation with agro-based industrial wastewater (treated paper mill effluent) though it initially increased the yield of many crops, over a period; it deteriorates the soil quality by addition of soluble salts in soil profile results in deflocculating of soil structure, reduced infiltration and waterlogging leads to yield reduction in some crops under poor management condition.

  • In many settings nitrogen enrichment of surface water bodies has increased following the increased use of N fertilizers. The precise contribution of nitrogen fertilizers to surface water nitrogen has been difficult to quantify because there are multiple sources of nitrogen contributing to most water bodies, and, depending on environmental conditions, a certain portion of soil nitrogen may be converted to gaseous or immobile forms.

  • This volume consists of a collection of current studies on free electron lasers. Free Electron Lasers covers the analysis of fundamentals and questions of design of these devices functioning from the infrared to ultraviolet or xuv wavelength regimes. In addition to the comparison with conventional lasers, analyses of some related topics concerning near-field and cavity electrodynamics, compact and table-top arrangements and strong radiation–induced exotic states of matter are presented.
