Subsurface flow constructed wetland
-
The objective of this study was to establish a standard experimental model to determine the removal rate constants of wastewater pollutants in subsurface flow–constructed wetlands. This result shows the applicability of the proposed experimental model and procedure to determine the contaminant removal rate constants in constructed wetlands uniformly.

Constructed wetland is a low cost, effective technology and it is still in the state of improvement to enhance the treatment efficiency, especially in nutrient and trace elements treatment. This study investigated the effect of aerobic and anoxic conditions in Horizontal Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetland (HSFCW) on nutrient, organic, metal and Octylphenol - OP (Endocrine disrupting chemical) treatment.

Constructed wetlands are known widely by their characteristic properties like utilization of natural processes, simple and easy of construction, operation and maintain as well. The constructed subsurface flow wetland is designed as a tank with an impervious boundary to prevent seepage and contain a suitable porous media in which emergent plants grow. The water remains below the surface of the gravel/stone/rock media. Soil in constructed subsurface flow wetland absorbs and stores organic matter several years.
