  • Ebook "Relationships of natural enemies and non-prey foods" presents primarily the enemies’ perspective, and as such is the first comprehensive review of the nut- tional importance of non-prey foods for insect predators and parasitoids. Although the ecological significance of feeding on non-prey foods has long been underappreciated, attempts have been made to manipulate nectar and pollen ava- ability in crop fields in order to enhance levels of biological pest control by natural enemies (van Emden, 1965; Hagen, 1986; Coll, 1998a).

  • Insulin dysregulation (ID) is a key risk factor for equine endocrinopathic laminitis, but in many cases ID can only be assessed accurately using dynamic tests. The identification of other biomarkers could provide an alternative or adjunct diagnostic method, to allow early intervention before laminitis develops.

  • Leptospirosis is an acute, bacterial, anthropozoonotic disease. Some occupations are highrisk group occupations for Leptospirosis e.g. field veterinarian, animal handler, dairy workers, slaughterhouse workers, rice field workers, sugar-cane field workers, sewage workers, and laboratory personnel. Poultry is known to be resistant to Leptospira spp. infection but the feed stuff available at poultry farms which are mostly located in the field attracts wild rodents. So it is important to study the prevalence of Leptospira spp.

  • The experiment was conducted to study the effect of different levels of pruning and foliar feeding of nutrients on growth, sugar content and yield of Phalsa (Grewia subinaequalis D.C.). The pruning level at 25 cm above ground level had significantly maximum shoot length (210.25 cm) and number of leaves per shoot (85.27). While, number of shoots per plant (30.60) was recorded highest with pruning at 50cm above ground level.

  • In a sugar plant, there are (i) feeding system (ii) refining system (iii) evaporation system (iv) crystallization system. One of the important systems is crystallization system. The crystallization system includes crystallization units, centrifugal pump and Sugar grader unit. If anyone of these units fails, overall refining system fails.

  • Malnutrition is still public health problem in some parts of the world and causes irreversible damage at infant stage. Infants require high energy and nutrient dense foods because of their high growth velocity. Feeding fortified complementary blended foods is one of the options to treat malnourished infants. These foods are prepared with cereallegume blend, oil, sugar, vitamin/minerals and animal source protein. Complementary foods with high sugar content (> 15%) are not recommended to treat malnourished group. Animal source protein in complementary foods leads to hike in production cost.

  • This study evaluated the effect of dietary monensin supplementation on nutrient intake, milk yield and milk quality of Lactating Murrah Buffaloes during early lactation stage receiving concentrate and sugar graze fodder. Twelve lactating Murrah buffaloes (567.50 kg of live weight; initial days in milk = 52.83 ± 10.24; milk yield = 6-8 kg/d) were randomly allocated to two groups depending upon the body weight and days in milk.

  • A developed human society in today’s era needs advancement in food production and yield to feed the ever blooming monstrous population. The existing feed supply resources are however confronted with a variety of environmental complexities like the global warming, curtailment of the agricultural lands and deterioration of the resources supporting the crop production. Abiotic stress like heat, cold, drought, flood, heavy metal etc create unfavourable condition for crop plant which effect its growth, survival and reproduction.

  • An experiment was conducted to study the effect of different concentrations of maltodextrine on spry drying of bittergourd powder. The results showed that after spray drying, initially the water activity, water absorption index (WAI), and bulk density were decreased with increase in maltodextrin concentration and water soluble index, pH, ascorbic acid, reducing sugars and whiteness index were increased with increase in maltodextrin concentration.

  • Sorghum is an essential crop in the semi-arid tropics being attacked by nearly 150 species of insects, out of which Chilo partellus is the more devastating pest. Based on the foliar damage the resistance and susceptible genotypes of sorghum can be screened. For further understanding of the host plant resistance relationship between sorghum and stem borer the orientation behaviour and larval establishment behaviour can be studied. The host plant resistance in sorghum to C. partellus can be either morphological or biochemical.

  • Unlike in dry milling, where the entire mash is fermented, in wet milling only the starch is fermented. The starch is then cooked, or liquefied, and an enzyme added to hydrolyze, or segment, the long starch chains. In dry milling, the mash, which still contains all the feed coproducts, is cooked and an enzyme added. In both systems a second enzyme is added to turn the starch into a simple sugar, glucose, in a process called saccharification. Saccharification in a wet mill may take up to 48 hours, though it usually requires less time, depending on the amount of enzyme used.

  • Furthermore WFP is providing food assistance to vulnerable groups through institutional feeding and school feeding to around 90,000 beneficiaries. WFP also provides a general food ration consisting of cereals, CSB, sugar, fortified oil and iodised salt when available, to the rural population affected by the humanitarian crisis, the urban poor and IDPs. In 2009 this food assistance covered around 3 to 3.5 million people a month – almost half the population – on the basis of FSNAU seasonal assessments.
