Sulfur hexafluoride

Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emission poses as serious threat to our environment and it is therefore of utmost importance that efficient systems are developed to mitigate these issues. SF6, in particular, has attracted more attention in recent years due to its global warming potential which severely exceeds that of CO2.

The sodium cations of 13X zeolite were replaced by Zn2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and Cu2+ cations contained in the various concentration of nitrate salts solutions. XRD and SEM analysis shows that the cationic exchange process is accompanied by a textural damage for the cation-exchanged 13X zeolites, especially, in the case of Ni2+ and Cu2+-exchanged 13X zeolites.

An automated data acquisition system was installed to monitor the indoor air temperatures and humidities, HAC operation, building pressures, and outdoor weather. An automated tracer-gas system for continuous monitoring of house air change rates also was installed. This system injected sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) into the house every 4 h to 6 h, allowed it to mix to a uniform concentration, and then monitored the concentration decay in several zones.
