Summer sorghum

The current work was focused on evaluating 24 sorghum accessions for fodder yield potential and nutritional quality during summer 2015 in the Department of Forage Crops, TNAU, Coimbatore. Plant samples were collected at 50% flowering stage and evaluated for nine fodder yield and 13 forage quality parameters. Grounded samples were used for assessing the fodder quality.

The integration of herbicides with some cultural operations and use of pre-emergence, post-emergence herbicides in combination with mechanical methods can prove to be more successful. A field experiment entitled “Response of rabi sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) on different levels of irrigation, nitrogen and banana pseudostem sap and its residual effect on summer greengram (Vigna radiata L.) under South Gujarat condition” was carried out during rabi season of 2016-17 and 2017-18 at college farm of Soil and Water Management Research Farm, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari. The soil was clayey in texture, rich in organic carbon, medium in available nitrogen, P2O5 and K2O with alkaline in reaction (pH 7.8).

The present research trial was carried out in kharif and summer season from year 2013-2015 at Cattle Breeding Farm, Junagadh agricultural University, Junagadh, Gujarat. Gundrijowar fodder samples were collected for quantitative HCN (mg/100 gm dry matter) concentration from eight sown plots from 15 DAS (Day after sowing) up to 60 DAS at fortnightly intervals and one more sampling was carried out when Gundrijowar fodder crops exhibit 25% flowering stage.

A pot culture experiment was conducted during summer 2017 at Department of Agril. Chemistry & Soil Science, College of Agriculture, JAU, Junagadh to study effect of chemical and nano nitrogenous fertilizer on growth, yield and yield attributes by sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) crop. The investigation was carried out in CRD design three replication with seven different treatments.
