This experiment was carried out to survey the antibody levels against Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and the morphology of ileal villi of broilers in commercial farms. Based on antibiotics and feed additives used, farms were classified in 3 groups as follows (1) Group I was supplied with antibiotic, probiotics and prebiotics; (2) Group II were supplemented with antibiotic, probiotics, prebiotics and organic acids; and (3) Group III was supplied with antibiotic and probiotics.

Infants born prematurely, particularly extremely low birth weight infants (ELBW) have altered gut microbial communities. Factors such as maternal health, gut immaturity, delivery mode, and antibiotic treatments are associated with microbiota disturbances, and are linked to an increased risk of certain diseases such as necrotising enterocolitis. Therefore, there is a requirement to optimally characterise microbial profiles in this at-risk cohort, via standardisation of methods, particularly for studying the influence of microbiota therapies (e.g.

Increased attention is being paid to breast muscle yield and meat quality in the duck breeding industry. Our previous report has demonstrated that dietary Clostridium butyricum (C. butyricum) can improve meat quality of Pekin ducks. However, the potential biological processes and molecular mechanisms that are modulated by dietary C. butyricum in the breast muscle of Pekin ducks remain unknown.

This study was carried out to evaluate viable existence of Bifidobacterium longum BB536 during two weeks refrigeration of fermented goat milk supplemented with inulin and different cereal bran (Sorghum, Barely and Millet). Fermentation mediums were formulated from goat milk supplemented with 10% inulin and different cereal bran (sorghum, barely and millet). Probiotic strain B. longum BB 536 was used as the starter culture for 12h incubation to attain the fermented products.

This study was carried out to explore prebiotic effect of different cereal bran on Bifidobacterium longum BB536 for developing functional. All the bran (sorghum, barely and millet) were ground finely. Fermentation mediums were formulated from goat milk supplemented with 10% inulin and different cereal bran (sorghum, barely and millet). Probiotic strain B. longum BB 536 was used for fermentation.

The experiment was conducted to study the blood profile of pre-weaned Hampshire piglets fed creep ration supplemented with probiotics and milk powder. Twenty eight numbers of piglets were selected from litters of four sows, thus forming T0, T1, T2 and T3 groups having 7 piglets each and allocated to different feeding treatment.

Deproteinated cheese whey was used for biomass production of probiotic strain Lactobacillus helveticus MTCC 5463 in a biofermenter. Optimization of growth parameters such as temperature, pH and time of incubation as well as nutrient supplementation of cheese whey was carried out using response surface methodology (RSM). Cheese whey supplemented with 0.95% yeast extract and 0.95% proteose peptone, inoculated with 6% (v/v) active culture of L. helveticus MTCC 5463 and fermented for 24 h at optimized temperature of 40ºC and pH 6.25 yielded 3.25 g/L dry cell biomass and 14.

Rohu fishes grown with biofloc for 120 days have been examined for the histopathological changes occurred in the intestine and kidney after infecting with Aeromonas hydrohila with 0.5 ml, 1.0 ml and 1.5 ml where 1.5X105 bacteria per ml. In the present study haematological alterations were documented after Aeromonas hydrophila infected rohu (Labeo rohita) fingerlings, fed with probiotic supplemented diets with rice bran and ground nut oil cake in biofloc with added ammonium chloride to reduce NH3.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of probiotic and synbiotic supplementation on production performance of lactating Sahiwal cattle in arid region of Rajasthan. Eighteen apparently healthy Sahiwal cows in their second month of lactation were randomly assigned to three groups. One group acted as control and was given basal diet only and the cows in other two groups were supplemented with probiotic and synbiotic at the dose of 15g/animal/day and 10g/animal/day, for three months.

In the present study dhokla was prepared by natural and probiotic (L. acidophilus) fermentation with the supplementation of 10, 20 and 30 per cent okara powder. Results of organoleptic evaluation indicated that both naturally and probiotic fermented dhokla supplemented with 10 per cent okara powder were found most acceptable and ‘liked moderately’ by the judges.

Growth is an essential outcome measure for evaluating the safety of any new ingredients, including probiotics, added to infant formulae. The aim of this systematic review was to determine the effects of supplementation of infant formulae with Bifidobacterium lactis Bb12 (B lactis) and/or Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) compared with unsupplemented formula on the growth of healthy infants.

The useful effects of foods with added live microbes on human health are being increasingly promoted by health professionals. The major probiotic beverage available in the markets today, are milk-based products; usually in the form of fermented milk. However, with an increase in the consumer vegetarianism and demand for cholesterol free probiotics, there is also a demand for the non-dairy based probiotic beverage.

The probiotic bacteria must be viable to affect the health, but the non-viable bacteria could also affect the immunological status of the host. It is believed that the arrival of probiotic bacteria with food to different parts of intestine can increase probiotic bacteria adherence and the rate of colonization. Food products may contain many forms of probiotic bacteria, including culture concentrate that is added to a food (dried or deep-freeze form), the fermented or non-fermented food products, and dietary supplements in the form of drug products-powder, capsules or tablet.
