One of the most popular ornamental plants worldwide, roses (Rosa sp.), are very susceptible to Botrytis gray mold disease. The necrotrophic infection of rose petals by B. cinerea causes the collapse and death of these tissues in both the growth and post-harvest stages, resulting in serious economic losses.

Anthurium is an important ornamental plant grown around the globe and also in India. Seed and vegetative propagation of this plant are tedious and very slow process and not practical when carried out on a large scale. Therefore, biotechnological approach such as in- vitro cloning is found to be a novel method for production of pathogen free true-to-type plantlets at a faster rate. In this study, a competent surface sterilization procedure was standardized for aseptic in-vitro culture from leaf explants of Anthurium adraeanum (Hort.) cv. Fire under in vitro conditions.

Myrothecium roridum, a fungal plant pathogen is known to infect the leaves and stem of coffee seedlings in the nursery and leaves and berries of the plants in the field. The pathogen has a very wide host base infecting many agricultural and horticulture crops, ornamentals, gymnosperms and weeds. As black pepper is a major intercrop grown in the coffee plantations, the present study was under taken to test the ability of M. roridum to infect black pepper (Piper nigrum L.). Two isolates of M. roridum, isolated both from coffee nursery and field was inoculated on the leaves of pepper vines.

The pollen grains are small (R. myconi, R. nathaliae) to medium (R. serbica) in size, ranging from 10 to 28 µm, and 3-colporate, isopolar monads with microreticulate-perforate exine. Seeds are small, 309 to 1000 µm long and 80 to 425 µm wide, elongated, with a reticulate surface and auriculate ornamentation.
