Research on wastewater treatment using constructed wetlands has shown that increasing the water retention time improves water treatment efficiency. Constructed wetlands are used for many purposes: polishing conventionally treated wastewater, holding and treating storm water, treating industrial or agricultural wastewater, and treating acid mine drainage and landfill leachates.

Contaminants in plating wastewater are hard to remove, especially hexavalent chromium ions. This waste stream contains a large amount of Cr6+, a highly toxic metal, potential to cause cancer. To reduce this pollution, sludge from a supply water treatment plant (DWTS) has been used to make adsorbent.

This study reviewed the latest information on the presence of PMMoV and human enteric viruses in water environments and in wastewater (water) treatment systems to evaluate the suitability of PMMoV as an indicator virus for water safety and quality. PMMoV was present in all types of waters (e.g., wastewater, surface water, groundwater, coastal water and drinking water) in greater prevalence than human enteric viruses.

The rejects and membrane wash water were also treated in the bioreactor, resulted in complete removal of ClO4 ¯ through this approach. This is the first report where biotreatment is adopted as a pre- and post-treatment to membrane process for removing ClO4 ¯ , and this will find field application for treating ClO4 ¯ contaminated ground as well as surface water sources.

As a result, starch treated by solvent with different concentrations tended to form wrinkles and pore from the surface to the inside of the starch granules during ethanol immersion. Therefore, the oil and water holding capacity, solubility, swelling and viscosity of the solvent-treated starch samples increase as the concentration of ethanol increases.

Hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI), is a highly toxic species, while trivalent chromium, Cr(III), is an essential trace element for humans and other organisms. In the present work, a simple, rapid, and efficient procedure for water treatment of Cr(VI) is described. Active carbon (AC) was chemically treated with HCl and NaOH for the formation of surface modified Acidic-AC and Basic-AC sorbents, respectively. In addition, AC sorbent was treated with HNO3 as an oxidizing agent and sodium sulfite as a reducing agent for the formation of Ox-AC and Rd-AC sorbents, respectively.

Cystic fbrosis (CF) is a life-threatening multiorgan genetic disease, particularly affecting the lungs, where recurrent infections are the main cause of reduced life expectancy. In CF, mutations in the gene encoding the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein impair transepithelial electrolyte and water transport, resulting in airway dehydration, and a thickening of the mucus associated with abnormal viscoelastic properties.

The present study addresses the removal of cadmium ions (Cd(II)) from aqueous solutions at a pH of 7.5 using zeolite-A activated by exposure to oxygen plasma. The activation process was performed over a wide range of plasma powers (10, 20, 30, and 40 W) and exposure times (30 to 360 s). Oxygen plasma cannot chemically modify zeolite to a considerable extent, but it can clean the surface, open blocked pores, and induce the formation of additional OH groups via exposure to humidity in ambient air. Therefore, Cd+2 ion removal is increased by approximately 10% with the plasma treatments.

The study focuses on solutions for cleaner production and waste generation prevention at sources by implementing good internal management, replacing raw materials; optimizing the production process; and on-site recovery and reuse. In addition, local authorities should select locations to build wastewater treatment systems, and implement communication solutions to raise awareness of local people on environmental and water protection.

Researchers have studied and evaluated the effects of electrical current frequency (f = 0÷2.000 Hz) on the physicochemical properties (surface tension, dynamic viscosity, specific weight) of wastewater. The effect of electric fields on the physicochemical properties of water, allows it to identify the optimal treatment regimes that promote the intensification of various processes taking place in an aqueous medium or in the presence of water.

A field experiment was conducted in the year 2014-2015 to study the effect of drip irrigation levels and black plastic mulch on bell pepper production under naturally ventilated polyhouse. The experiment was carried out in Randomized Block Design with four drip irrigation levels (100, 80, 60 and 40 % of crop water requirement) and surface irrigation in conjunction with or without plastic mulch. Better results were found in drip irrigation system as compared to surface irrigation both under mulched and unmulched treatment.

Water logging and low application efficiency are main problems inherent with surface irrigation. The methods were surface, surface drip and subsurface drip irrigation with three level of irrigation 100, 80, 60% of potential evapo-transpiration were compared and contour map of soil moisture patterns were analysed for corn in two times; one before irrigation, and other at 48 h after irrigation. The distribution of water in soil profile for potato crop by subsurface drip irrigation system (SDI) studied and it was observed uniform and more yield for all treatments.
