Surfactant deficiency

Nanosuspensions (NS) are one of the new generation drug carrier forms developed to overcome the deficiencies of drugs with poor water solubility or insolubility and are considered to be one of the most successful approaches to formulate compounds in recent years. Boron nitride (BN) is insoluble in water and chemically more stable than carbon, it offers better biological superiority although the application of carbon structures in the biomedical field has increased in recent years

Surfactant is usually deficiency in adult acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS) patients and surfactant administration may be a useful therapy. The aim of this study was to perform a meta-analysis of the effect of surfactant administration on outcomes of adult patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Lung surfactant plays a key role in adequate pulmonary function throughout life. Since Surfactant replacement therapy has been introduced in 1980s, it has proven its effect in premature neonates with surfactant deficiency. Since surfactant therapy is important in various respiratory conditions in premature neonates, this proposed study reviews the incidence, outcome & their clinical issues in surfactant replacement therapy. The objective of the study is to assess the outcome of surfactant therapy in premature neonates, to find out the length of hospital stay.

Surfactant therapy is one of the few treatments that have dramatically changed clinical practice in neonatology. In addition to respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), surfactant deficiency is observed in many other clinical situations in term and preterm infants, raising several questions regarding the use of surfactant therapy.

It is now recognized that preterm infants ≤28 weeks gestation can be effectively supported from the outset with nasal continuous positive airway pressure. However, this form of respiratory therapy may fail to adequately support those infants with significant surfactant deficiency.
