This unique book provides a critical examination of the current traditions and techniques commonly taught regarding hallux valgus correction and contrasts them with new, evidence-based anatomic and surgical concepts that change the entire approach to bunion surgery. Ebook Evidence based bunion surgery: A critical examination of current and emerging concepts and techniques will be the new standard for the management of hallux valgus for podiatric and orthopedic surgeons, residents and fellows.

Diagnosing urinary incontinence from organic causes such as ectopic ureter is particularly important because of the potential for cure by surgical correction. The prevalence of ectopic ureter is uncertain because many are asymptomatic and the diagnosis is usually overlooked.

Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease that has low survival rate without surgical correction. This report is about a rare case of acute ST elevation myocardial infarction in a 46-year-old patient with uncorrected TOF that was successfully treated with low-dose intracoronary thrombolysis.

Left to right shunt in congenital heart disease is the common causes of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in children, and the pulmonary pressure sometime isn’t recovered to normal value after the shunts closed. Residual PH after correcting these shunts may cause deaths. The purpose of this study was to describe the rate of residual PH after surgical closure the left to right shunts in pediatric congenital heart disease and determine its risk factors.

The development of dysphagia and trismus following posterior C1–C3 fusion is rare compared to occipitocervical fusion, and there are very few reports in the literature. Short upper cervical fusion can produce trismus and dysphagia in a relatively fexed position. Preoperative planning should be individualized based on the patient’s resting neutral alignment to prevent complications.

In scoliosis corrective surgery, total blood loss is composed of visible blood loss, including intraoperative haemorrhage and drainage, and hidden blood loss in which blood extravasates into the tissues and accumulates in the surgical field.

Early versions of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) scoliosis correction surgery often involved sublaminar devices. Recently, the utilization of pedicle screws has gained much popularity. Pedicle screws are generally believed to provide additional deformity correction, but pedicle size and rotational deformity limit their application in the thoracic spine, resulting in a hybrid construct involving pedicle screws and sublaminar wire. Studies of the efcacy of hybrid instrumentation in SMA scoliosis are often limited by the scarcity of the disease itself.

Surgical management of cervical kyphosis in patients with NF-1 is a challenging task. Presently, anterior-only (AO), posterior-only (PO) and combined anterior-posterior (AP) spinal fusion are common surgical strategies. However, the choice of surgical strategy and application of Halo traction remain controversial.

Two ipsilateral hemivertebrae is less common and presents severe growth imbalance caused by the vertebral anomalies. However, there is a paucity of reports regarding to two ipsilateral thoracolumbar hemivertebrae. The purpose of present study is to evaluate the long-term outcomes of the posterior surgical correction of thoracolumbar spine deformity caused by two ipsilateral hemivertebrae.

To analyze how pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) treatment of severe Scheuermann thoracolumbar kyphosis (STLK) using pedicle screw instrumentation affects sagittal spinopelvic parameters. Background: The medical literature on the post-surgical effects of treatments such as Ponte osteotomy is limited, but suggests few effects on spinopelvic profiles.

All diabetic neuroosteoarthropathy (Charcot arthropathy) treatment concepts are focused on a long-term infection-free, ulcer-free, and plantigrade sufficiently stable foot in order to avoid amputation. Reconstructive arthrodesis techniques for severe deformities are associated with high postoperative complication rates.

There have been conflicting studies published regarding the ability of various total knee arthroplasty (TKA) techniques to correct preoperative deformity. The purpose of this study was to compare the postoperative radiographic alignment in patients with severe preoperative coronal deformity (≥10° varus/valgus) who underwent three different TKA techniques; manual instrumentation (MAN), computer navigated instrumentation (NAV) and patient specific instrumentation (PSI).
