Surti goat

Total eighteen Surti goats were selected in the present study. The aim of the present study was to diagnose pregnancy at 40 days after breeding in selected goats by trans-rectal ultrasound scanning and progesterone assay simultaneously. Out of eighteen Surti goats, 17 (94.44%) goats were detected at pregnant by trans-rectal ultrasound scanning. On the same day of scanning, blood samples were collected from all the goats to estimate progesterone concentration.

The information in Indian goats in particular Surti, is less. So the present study was planned with the objective to study the polymorphism in growth hormone gene using PCR-RFLP technique and to explore the association of various genotypes of the gene with the growth related parameters in Surti goats.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of yeast supplementation on growth, feed conversion efficiency and cost of feeding in Surti goat kids. A total of 16 male Surti goat kids of four months old were selected with average body weight of 7.53±0.13 Kg. Animals were randomly divided in to two groups with eight replication per group.

The goat contributes 3.5 % of the total milk and 19% of the total meat production in India. As Goat is called a poor man's cow because it provides milk, manure and protein source at low cost. Goat is gaining recognition in the backyard industry because of fewer space necessities and better efficiency than cattle’s. Production performances supposed to vary with twin or singlet kidding in goats. The present investigation was undertaken to study the production performance in a singlet and twin kid bearing Surti goats.
