The issue of livelihood security has been a question of relevance for the planners, policy makers and researchers. Therefore, it is imperative to develop most suitable land use options for agriculture for livelihood security of the millions of small and marginal farmers’ world over. Taking the issue of livelihood security at centre stage an attempt was made in this study to address this question with the development of alternate land use options for different soil series of the study area.

Seven release varieties of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) were evaluated for G X E interaction, adaptability with sustainability index and their comparison for cane yield (t/ha) incomplete randomized block design during spring season of 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20 at Agricultural Research station, Ummedganj, Kota under SouthEastern Plane Zone of Rajasthan. The mean cane yield (t/ha.), regression coefficient (bi) and deviation from regression (S2 d) with sustainability index was used to identify the stability and adaptability of popular sugarcane varieties.

Investigations on the effect of land leveling indices on soil moisture distribution in cotton fields
Land development is one of the prime components of sustainable farming. Unevenness of agricultural fields leads to the in-efficient use of irrigation water, which in turn reduces the yield and farm income. Levelling index, which is a dynamic factor, determines the quality and accuracy of land levelling. Land development/levelling is having enormous impact on moisture storage and distribution in the field both spatially and temporally, crop growth, yields and irrigation water saving.

The field experiments on green gram was carried out during four consecutive years 2016 to 2019 at farmer’s field of Bikaner districts under cluster frontline demonstrations conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bikaner to evaluate improved technology for enhancing the productivity and economics of green gram crop. Two treatments were evaluated at 25 farmers and comprised of improved technology (i.e. high yielding varieties, seed treatment, timely sowing, recommended fertilizer management, plant protection measures and irrigation management compared with farmer’s practice.

On farm demonstrations were conducted during kharif seasons of 2013 to 2015 at farmer’s field in Chambal command area of Rajasthan under Operational Research Programme of Agricultural Research Station, Kota to study the impact of improved water management technology on the water productivity and sustainability of rice. Treatments comprised irrigation of 5±2 cm standing water and refilling at 1-3 days after disappearance of ponded water which was compared with the farmers practice (FP) i.e. continuous submergence.

To demonstrate the new production technologies to farmers the front line demonstration is very important tool. The frontline demonstration were conducted during 2011-12 to 2017-18 on farmers’ field in the Zone V to show performance of soybean production improved technology recommended by Agriculture University Kota. The results of improved technologies were more remunerative to farmers as compared to farmers’ practices. Use of improved technology for soybean production helps to increase the productivity of soybean by 16.64 per cent over farmers practice. In term of monetary returns, 19.

Crop diversification with resource efficient and remunerative cropping systems is a sustainable agricultural practice. On farm demonstrations with diversified cropping system of Redgram + soybean Vis-a-Vis farmers’ practice of sole cotton were conducted in ten farmer’s locations of Warangal district of Telangana state. Crop diversification with red gram + soybean realized 29.9% higher (3706 kg ha-1 ) mean cotton kapas equivalent yield over farmer’s practice of cultivation of sole cotton (2852 kg ha-1 ). Mean technology and extension gap were 594 kg ha-1 and 854 kg ha-1 respectively.

A field experiment was conducted at KVK, Kalburgi, on black soils. The zero tillage practices were followed since 3 years in five main plots and different reduced nutrient levels were imposed as subplots, by following split plot design. Every year same crop pigeonpea genotype TS-3R was grown. The prophylactic measures were undertaken against pests and diseases. Biological observations were analysed at 50 per cent flowering.

Vegetables play important role in supply of vitamins minerals and fibers. Micronutrient demonstrations conducted by KVK, Koppal emphasized on sustainable production of vegetables with higher yield which ultimately improves the economy and better livelihood of the vegetable grower. The present demonstrations were carried out in 9 different vegetables of Solanaceous, cruciferous and cucurbitaceous-s family during 2016-17, 2017- 18 and 2018-19 respectively. The occurrence of drought stress at seed filling stage is known to cause severe yield reduction in soybean especially where the crop is grown in rainfed conditions. Screening of large germplasm lines under natural drought conditions is extremely difficult to execute due to unusual rains. In the present study, about 328 germplasm lines are screened for terminal drought tolerance by spraying 0.2% of potassium iodide (KI) at R5 stage and the tolerant lines were again retested under similar conditions in the subsequent year.
