Sweet corn cultivars

The field experiment was conducted during summer season of 2013 under irrigated subtropics Shiwalik foot hills to study the effect of different cultivars and planting times of sweet corn on sandy clay loam soil, at the Research Farm of Division of Agronomy, Shere-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu.

A study was carried out to assess the effect of combined application of bio organics and chemical fertilizers on post-harvest quality of sweet corn stored at different three storage interval i.e. 24, 48 and 72 hrs period. Sweet corn shelf life assessment was carried out in a factorial experiment with pre harvest bio-organics and chemical fertilizers application as one factor and different storage period as another factor.

A field experiment was conducted at S.V. Agricultural College Wetland farm, Tirupati to study the performance of sweet corn cultivars under varied times of sowing in Southern Agro-Climatic Zone of Andhra Pradesh during rabi 2011. The treatments consisted of combination of two factors viz., three varieties (Madhuri, Sugar 75, Misthi) and four times of sowing (October first fortnight, October second fort night, November first fortnight and November second fortnight).

During last few decades the mechanism of salinity tolerance in plants, from the whole plant level to cellular and gene level, has been the subject of numerous studies. However parts of the mechanism of plant salt tolerance are still mysterious. Among one third of the irrigated land is suffering from secondary salinization an alarming situation that is referred to as the “quiet crisis”. We hypothesize that arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi is one of the possible Bio-ameliorator for salinity stress and play a significant role in alleviation of salt stress to greater extent.
