Swine influenza A virus (IAV) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) are considered key viral pathogens involved in the porcine respiratory disease complex. Concerning the effect of one virus on another with respect to local immune response is still very limited.

The objectives of this study were to investigate antibody responses to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), influenza A virus (IAV), and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M. hyopneumoniae) from weaning to the end of the finisher stage on a subset of commercial swine farms in Ontario, Canada, and to examine the association between nursery diet and antibody responses.

Influenza A Virus (IAV) causes respiratory disease in swine and is a zoonotic pathogen. Uncontrolled IAV in swine herds not only affects animal health, it also impacts production through increased costs associated with treatment and prevention efforts.

Respiratory tract infections are among the most common infections in India. Multiple etiological agents are involved in the causation of these infections. Swine flu H1N1 is one among the influenza viruses which has great potential to cause epidemics as well as pandemics with great mortality and morbidity. All the suspected cases should be identified at the earliest so that interventions can be taken to prevent the spread of infections and thus contain the outbreaks.

Illness with influenza in pigs was first recognized during the influenza pandemic of 1918 to 1919, and a swine influenza virus was first isolated from a human in 1974 [46]. In 1976, swine influenza virus caused a respiratory illness with one fatality among 13 soldiers in Fort Dix, New Jersey [7]. No exposure to pigs was found. A subsequent epidemiologic study showed that up to 230 soldiers had been infected with the virus.
