Ebook "Fish bioacoustics" are intended to introduce new investigators to important aspects of hearing science and to help established investigators to better understand the fundamental theories and data in fields of hearing that they may not normally follow closely. Each volume presents a particular topic comprehensively, and each serves as a synthetic overview and guide to the literature. As such, the chapters present neither exhaustive data reviews nor original research that has not yet appeared in peer-reviewed journals.

Ebook "Fillers for polymer applications" is a transition from what was originally a series of contributions for an Encyclopedia. Most of the chapters are thus rather short with their main aim being to give a good overview of the topic and point the reader to the best of the detailed literature. Something also needs to be said about the literature referenced. Filler technology is very much industry, rather than academic, based.

In ebook "Nucleic acid drugs (Advances in Polymer science, Volume 249)" the basic concept of antisense and siRNA strategies is summarized by Dr. Yano of Nippon Shinyaku Co. The antisense strategy can be regarded as the striking NAD concept that was logically innovated in the mid-1970s. Originally, oligonucleotides complementary to mRNAs were thought to physically block translational steps in gene expression resulting in the blocking of protein synthesis.

Ebook "Polyextremophiles: Life under multiple forms of stress (Cellular origin, life in extreme habitats and astrobiology, Volume 27)" provides novel results of application to polyextremophiles research ranging from nanotechnology to synthetic biology to the origin of life and beyond. Many Microorganisms and some macro-organisms can live under extreme conditions. For example, high and low temperature, acidic and alkaline conditions, high salt areas, high pressure, toxic compounds, high level of ionizing radiation, anoxia and absence of light, etc.

This paper has proposed a method of designing Polar codes by determining a synthetic channels reliability index sequence based on the Polarization Weights (PW) method called the Improved Polarization Weights (IPW) method. The simulation results show that the error correction performance of the code designed according to IPW is better than the code structure selected for 5G NR and designed according to the original PW method.

Humans can be exposed to primary aromatic amines (PAAs) by the usage of a variety of synthetic products which come in contact with food and plastic children toys. PAAs are mainly originated from synthetic azo dyes widely applied as colorants on plastics and also from the use of adhesives based on polyurethanes (PU) in laminated food packing materials.

This history of antimicrobials is marked with impressive discoveries, the majority of which have their origin in natural products. However in this work, the antimicrobial activity of β- nitrostyrenes and related compounds of synthetic origin is reviewed and investigated with a particular focus on the influence of fluorine functionality. Various fluorinated β-methyl-β-nitrostyrene compounds were prepared, their minimum inhibition concentration in cultures of Gram positive, Gram negative and a fungus and their lipophilicity was determined.

This paper focuses on exploring Machine learning methods to automate this process. The main challenge we face is in generating adequate training datasets to train the Machine learning model. Creating training data by manually segmenting real images is very labour-intensive, so we have instead tested methods of automatically creating synthetic training datasets which have the same attributes of the original images. The generated synthetic images are used to train a U-net Model, which is then used to segment the original bread dough images.

The concern for the issues related to the growing needs of human civilization like resource depletion, pollution, climate changes, and health risk has led to a search for eco-friendly alternatives to environmental problems. Recently, hemp started gaining popularity for its medicinal, nontoxic, greenhouse negative, and biodegradable properties. Originating from the steppes of Central Asia, Cannabis sativa L. (hemp) is one of the oldest domesticated plants known to humans.

Originally developed for the genomic analysis of highly degraded ancient DNA, single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) library preparation methods are gaining popularity in the field of cfDNA analysis due to their efficiency and ability to convert short, fragmented DNA into sequencing libraries without altering DNA ends. However, current ssDNA methods are costly and time-consuming.

This paper proposes and develops a web attack detection model that combines a clustering algorithm and a multi-branch convolutional neural network (CNN). The original feature set was clustered into clusters of similar features. Each cluster of similar features was generalized in a convolutional structure of a branch of the CNN. The component feature vectors are assembled into a synthetic feature vector and included in a fully connected layer for classification.

The spatial Principal Component Analysis (sPCA, Jombart (Heredity 101:92-103, 2008) is designed to investigate non-random spatial distributions of genetic variation. Unfortunately, the associated tests used for assessing the existence of spatial patterns (global and local test; (Heredity 101:92-103, 2008) lack statistical power and may fail to reveal existing spatial patterns.

Thiazolidinediones are sulfur containing pentacyclic compounds that are widely found throughout nature in various forms. Thiazolidinedione nucleus is present in numerous biological compounds, e.g., anti-malarial, antimicrobial, anti-mycobacterium, anticonvulsant, antiviral, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-HIV (human immunodefciency virus) and antitubercular agent.

A 21-year-old man from India presented with acute hepatitis associated with a 1-week history of abdominal pain, pruritus, and dark urine. Over a 7-day admission, the patient’s acute hepatitis evolved into acute liver failure with low-grade encephalopathy, markedly elevated transaminases, bilirubin, and impaired hepatic synthetic function. He was eventually diagnosed with acute hepatitis E virus (HEV) and was transitioned to supportive management. Acute HEV is a rare cause of acute liver failure.

Plant extracts continues the numerous searches for more effective drugs of plant origin which are less toxic and available for low socio-economic population in the treatment of diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria. The potential for developing antibacterial from higher plants appears rewarding as it will result to the development of a phytomedicine to act against microbes. Plant based antibacterials have enormous therapeutic potentials as they can serve the purpose with lesser side effects that are often associated with synthetic antibacterials.

The conclusion of the twentieth century provides Bahá'ís with a unique vantage point. During the past hundred years our world underwent changes far more profound than any in its preceding history, changes that are, for the most part, little understood by the present generation. These same hundred years saw the Bahá'í Cause emerge from obscurity, demonstrating on a global scale the unifying power with which its Divine origin has endowed it. As the century drew to its close, the convergence of these two historical developments became increasingly apparent.

A new human/rat CRH analogue has been synthesized using the Fmoc/tBu solid-phase synthetic protocol. The sequence ofthe new peptide differs from the original in two positions, 12 and 15, at which the native amino acids L-phenylalanine 12 and L-leucine 15 have been replaced by the nonprotein amino acids D-phenylalanine and a-aminoisobutyric acid (Aib), respectively. The high resolution three-dimensional solution structure of [D-Phe12, Aib15]CRH has been determined by 688 dis-tance constraints (656 meaningful NOE and 32 H-bonds distance limits) and 21 angle constraints. ...

We describe a new approach for synthetically combining the output of several different Machine Translation (MT) engines operating on the same input. The goal is to produce a synthetic combination that surpasses all of the original systems in translation quality. Our approach uses the individual MT engines as “black boxes” and does not require any explicit cooperation from the original MT systems.
