Multimolecular complexes involving the eukaryotic elongation factor 1A (eEF1A) have been suggested to play an important role in the channeling (vectorial transfer) of tRNAduring protein synthesis [Negrutskii, B.S.&El’skaya, A.V. (1998)Prog. Nucleic Acids Res. Mol. Biol.60,47–78]. Recently we have demonstrated that besides performing its canonical function of forming a ternary complex with GTP and aminoacyl-tRNA, the mammalian eEF1A can produce a noncanonical ternary complex with GDP and uncharged tRNA [Petrushenko, Z.M., Negrutskii, B.S.,...

The opportunity to design enzymatic systems is becoming more feasible due to detailed knowledge of the structure of many proteins. As a first step, investigations have aimed to redesign already existing systems, so that they can performa function different from the one for which they were syn-thesized. We have investigated the interaction of electron transfer proteins fromdifferent systems inorder to check the possibility of heterologous reconstitution among members of different chains.

Although plant non-specific lipid transfer proteins (ns-LTPs) are character-ized by their ability to bind and transfer a broad range of hydrophobic ligands in vitro, their biological functions in vivo remain unclear. Recently, it has been proposed that ns-LTPs may play a key role in plant defense mechanisms, particularly during the induction of systemic acquired resis-tance,
