Renal–adrenal fusion is a rare entity resulting from incomplete encapsulation of the adrenal gland and kidney. Only 18 cases have been reported in English literature to date. Our patient is a 77-year-old African American female who presented with a systolic blood pressure of 200 mmHg.

Renal artery stenosis is responsible for approximately 75% of secondary hypertensive cases. A 63- year-old female patient with uncontrolled hypertension and other comorbidities including type 2 diabetes mellitus and knee osteoarthritis presented with drastically raised systolic blood pressure in this case report (220 mmHg).

People with prediabetes are at greater risk for heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, vision problems, nerve damage and high blood pressure, compared to those without the disease. Prediabetes is a complex disorder involving both genetic and environmental factors in its pathogenesis.

Whether during spontaneous breathing arterial pressure variations (APV) can detect a volume deficit is not established. We hypothesized that amplification of intra-thoracic pressure oscillations by breathing through resistors would enhance APV to allow identification of a reduced cardiac output (CO). This study tested that hypothesis in healthy volunteers exposed to central hypovolemia by head-up tilt.

Blood pressure targets for oldest-old people have been long debated due to the concern that more stringent targets are associated with increased mortality. We aimed to investigate the association between changes of late-life systolic blood pressure (SBP), mean SBP and SBP variability (SBPV), and all-cause mortality in oldest-old.

During emergence from anesthesia after partial and total laryngectomy, excessive airway reflex and systemic hypertension may lead to subcutaneous emphysema, hemorrhage or pneumothorax. Methods: American Society of Anesthesiologist physical status III and IV male adults undergoing elective laryngectomy were recruited and randomly allocated to receive either dexmedetomidine (group D) or midazolam (group M).

Phenylephrine is the most commonly used vasopressor for prophylaxis against maternal hypotension during cesarean delivery; however, the best regimen for its administration is not well established. Although variable infusion protocols had been suggested for phenylephrine infusion, evidence-based evaluation of variable infusion regimens are lacking.

Higher tourniquet pressures may be associated with an increased risk of complications. We aimed to determine (1) whether a lower tourniquet pressure [systolic blood pressure (SBP) + 120 mmHg] is as effective as conventional tourniquet pressure (SBP + 150 mmHg) in providing a bloodless surgical field and decreasing blood loss, and (2) whether lowering the tourniquet pressure decreases tourniquet-related complications compared to conventional inflation pressure.

Beverages are no longer considered as thirst-quenchers; consumers look for specific functionality and it becomes a part of their lifestyle. In recent years, these changes and developments have led to newer products. Red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) is a rich source of dietary nitrate which significantly reduces systolic blood pressure in humans. Banana (Musa spp.) is a major source of potassium and total dietary fibers. Spray-drying is one of the highly utilized techniques to increase the shelf-life of food products.

Whilst the burden of non-communicable diseases is increasing in developing countries, little data is available on blood pressure among Tanzanian children. This study aimed at determining the blood pressure profiles and risk factors associated with elevated blood pressure among primary school children in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) response is a critical for the functioning of small blood vessels. We investigated the effect of streptozotocin-induced diabetes on the EDHF response and its possible role in the regulation of cardiac function. The vasorelaxant response to ACh- or NS309- (direct opener endothelial small- (SKCa)- and intermediateconductance (IKCa) calcium-activated potassium channels; main components of EDHF response) were measured in pressurized mesenteric arteries (diameter 300–350 lm). The response to 1 lM ACh was reduced in diabetes (84.8 ± 2.

Comparative study of cardio protective effect of aliskiren, telmisartan, and torsemide was carried out on L-nitro arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) induced hypertension in rats. The three drugs were given daily for 8 weeks simultaneously with L-NAME, with a control group for each drug and L-NAME. The degree of protection was assessed by measurement of systolic blood pressure and heart rate of animals every two weeks. At the end of the experimental period blood sampling was carried out for estimation of the level of NO2 /NO3 .

Hypertension is the main risk factor for cerebral stroke and death resulting from cerebral stroke. Current association studies on hypertension and intestinal microbiota focus on patients with hypertension (HTN); however, no investigations involving patients with isolated diastolic hypertension (IDH) or systolic hypertension (SH) have been conducted to date.
