In this study, we aim to assess the relationships of the taxonomic attributes (such as species richness and diversity, community composition) and structural attributes (such as diameter, height, volume and above ground biomass) of the three major forest types in Phou Khao Khouay National Park of Laos.

The human lung tissue microbiota remains largely uncharacterized, although a number of studies based on airway samples suggest the existence of a viable human lung microbiota. Here we characterized the taxonomic and derived functional profiles of lung microbiota in 165 non-malignant lung tissue samples from cancer patients.

Ablepharus Lichtenstein, 1823, which includes ten species, is distributed in eastern Europe and Asia. Four species are recorded in Turkey: A. kitaibelii, A. chernovi, A. bivittatus, and A. budaki. After molecular and morphological studies in Anatolia, the phylogenetic relationship of the genus is still very complicated. Here, we investigate the taxonomic status of Ablepharus in Anatolia using morphological and molecular methods. The genetic structure of Ablepharus populations in Anatolia was analyzed using both the nuclear (CMOS) and mitochondrial (cyt b and COI) gene regions.

The common vole Microtus arvalis (Pallas, 1778) is the most widespread Microtus species. It has two forms – the European arvalis form (2n: 46, NF: 84) and the Asian obscurus form (2n: 46, NF: 72). The present study aimed to clarify the taxonomic status of M. arvalis populations distributed in Eastern Turkey, Europe and Asia by analysing two mitochondrial (CYTB and COX1) and one nuclear (IRBP) markers.

The taxonomic utility of internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) secondary structures in different plant groups, as well as in Brassicaceae, has been addressed by many studies. Although characterization and applications of ITS2 secondary structures for the members of main Brassicaceae lineages (Lineages I, II, III, and expanded Lineage II) have been studied, the utility of compensatory base change (CBC) species concept has not been the subject of any studies thus far.

Palynological characters of 20 taxa belonging to the Turkish subgenus Cyanus were studied in details using light and scanning electron microscopy. Pollen grains of the subgenus Cyanus were tricolporate or syncolporate, subprolate or prolate-spheroidal, 26.15 to 53 µm in polar size, 22.84 to 46.86 µm in equatorial size, isopolar, and radially symmetrical. The only type of pollen grain ornamentation observed was scabrate-perforate. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were performed to investigate the relationships of the studied Cyanus taxa.

Teucrium L. is a well-known and cosmopolitan genus of the Lamiaceae family. In Turkey, the genus is represented by 36 species (48 taxa). Teucrium Sect. Teucrium that this study focuses on comprises around 30 species worldwide and is mainly distributed in countries of the Mediterranean Basin. With 11 species (14 taxa), it is the second-largest section of the genus Teucrium in Turkey. In this study, morphological and molecular findings were evaluated and the phylogeny and biogeographical distribution of Sect. Teucrium were analyzed. Also, five endemic taxa belonging to Sect.

Order Chaetophorales currently includes six families, namely Schizomeridaceae, Aphanochaetaceae, Barrancaceae, Uronemataceae, Fritschiellaceae, and Chaetophoraceae. The phylogenetic relationships of Chaetophorales have been inferred primarily based on short and less informative rDNA sequences.

The banana (Musa sp., AAA) genome is constantly increasing due to high-frequency of somaclonal variations. Due to its large diversity, a conventional numerical and morphological based taxonomic identification of banana cultivars is laborious, difficult and often leads to subject of disagreements.

Calligonum (Polygonaceae) is distributed from southern Europe through northern Africa to central Asia, and is typically found in arid, desert regions. Previous studies have revealed that standard DNA barcodes fail to discriminate Calligonum species.

Phylogenetic trees are an important tool to study the evolutionary relationships among organisms. The huge amount of available taxa poses difficulties in their interactive visualization. This hampers the interaction with the users to provide feedback for the further improvement of the taxonomic framework.

Modern plant taxonomy reflects phylogenetic relationships among taxa based on proposed morphological and genetic similarities. However, taxonomical relation is not necessarily reflected by close overall resemblance, but rather by commonality of very specific morphological characters or similarity on the molecular level.

Marssonina leaf blotch caused by the fungus Marssonina coronaria (Ellis & J.J. Davis) J.J. Davis causing premature leaf fall is one of the major economic constraint which hampers apple production in India. Seven isolates of Marssonina coronaria were isolated and evaluated for their morphological and molecular characterization using ITS primers. All the seven isolates were identified based on the morphological characteristics, and produced brown to black colonies without aerial mycelium, formed a wrinkled surface, on PDA after incubation for 30 days.
