  • The present work provides a taxonomic key to the genera of Polygonaceae found in Vietnam. It also reports the first occurrence of Persicaria runcinata in Lai Chau province, extending its known distribution within the country. Detailed photographic illustrations of the specimens studied accompany the findings. This extended distribution of P. runcinata could hold significant conservation implications, emphasizing the importance of further research and conservation efforts in the region.

  • Ebook "Agrobacterium: From biology to biotechnology" continues with a description of how Agrobacterium is used as a tool in plant biotechnology. The next two chapters describe our knowledge of the Agrobacterium genome gained with the advent of genomics approaches and place Agrobacterium in the taxonomic context of related bacterial species. The main portion of the book, which comprises 11 chapters, provides a detailed review of virtually all molecular aspects of the genetic transformation process, including chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology of host recognition and attachment,...

  • In the present study, trichomes of 70 spp. from nine genera and pollens of 53 spp. from six genera were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in order to draw the taxonomic conclusion of tribe Stachydeae. Trichome characters that can provide adequate variation in delimitation of taxa were: presence or absence of glandular or nonglandular trichomes, number of cells (uni-/bi-/multicellular), presence of extremely long trichomes (i.e.

  • Fractal analysis helped find differences in species in the organisation of fish otolith crystalline surfaces in 2 closely related and 2 distant species. To determine regularities of this organisation, we used the microcanonical method of multifractal spectra. It was revealed that the differences of multifractal spectra were more significant for longer distances of taxonomic divergence.

  • The heterotrophic dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans was a major component of plankton samples in the Sinop region, presenting its highest values in April 2005. Mesozooplankton abundance values showed significant differences (except 2007–2009 and 2008–2009) during the 5-year sampling period. Since the middle of 2006, an increase in abundance, biomass, and biodiversity of mesozooplankton has been detected. Many mesozooplanktonic species/groups showed seasonality in the study (especially Cladocera species). This seasonality was determined to be based on temperature changes.

  • Trichomes of 35 species of the genus Convolovulus and one species of the genus Calystegia (C. sepium) were investigated using light and scanning electron microscopy. The trichomes show a great variation, which provides valuable data for sections and species delimitation in Convolvulus. Trichomes of Convolvulus are nonglandular, simple, and basifixed or rarely asymmetrically medifixed. Characters of taxonomic interest were the degree of curviness (straight to spiral), orientation relative to the epidermal surface (appressed to erect), and presence of papillae on trichome surface.

  • Nutlets of 13 taxa of subfamily Cyperoideae (Cyperaceae) from Egypt were investigated using light and scanning electron microscopes to ascertain the taxonomic utility of the nutlet in corroborating and elaborating on distinctions between closely related genera and species. The studied taxa included representatives of tribes Fuireneae, Cypereae, Cariceae, Abildgaardieae and Schoeneae. Nutlet shape, size, color, surface, epidermal cell shape, anticlinal boundaries, outer periclinal cell wall and relief of outer cell walls were provided.

  • Palynological characters of 20 taxa belonging to the Turkish subgenus Cyanus were studied in details using light and scanning electron microscopy. Pollen grains of the subgenus Cyanus were tricolporate or syncolporate, subprolate or prolate-spheroidal, 26.15 to 53 µm in polar size, 22.84 to 46.86 µm in equatorial size, isopolar, and radially symmetrical. The only type of pollen grain ornamentation observed was scabrate-perforate. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were performed to investigate the relationships of the studied Cyanus taxa.

  • Long-read nanopore sequencing technology is of particular significance for taxonomic identification at or below the species level. For many environmental samples, the total extractable DNA is far below the current input requirements of nanopore sequencing, preventing “sample to sequence” metagenomics from low-biomass or recalcitrant samples.

  • Green nanomaterials have gained much attention due to their potential use as therapeutic agents. The present study investigated the production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from a silver-resistant Bacillus safensis TEN12 strain, which was isolated from metal contaminated soil and taxonomically identified through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The formation of AgNPs in bacterial culture was confirmed by using UV–vis spectroscopy with an absorption peak at 426.18 nm.

  • Nutrient contents in the leaves of mulberry, Morus alba (L) made it to occupy the pace making place in the sericultural practices. The mulberry, Morus alba (L.) is native to eastern and central China. It became naturalized in Europe centuries ago. The tree was introduced into America for silkworm culture in early colonial times and naturalized and hybridized with the native red mulberry. The red or American mulberry is native to eastern United States from Massachusetts to Kansas and down to the Gulf coast.

  • Significant morphological similarities within or in between species of insects has made reliable taxonomic identification difficult. DNA barcoding has appeared to be a useful tool in resolving the issues related to the identification of taxonomically difficult insect species. The Northeastern region of India is one of the mega biodiversity hotspots in the World and the climatic conditions of the region are highly conducive for reproduction and multiplication of insects.

  • Morphological features of pollen of 11 Turkish taxa belonging to the complex genus Seseli L. were examined using light and scanning electron microscopy. On the basis of exine sculpturing, 3 main types were recognised in Seseli: Type 1, rugulate at equator, psilate-perforate at pole; Type 2, striate-reticulate at equator, rugulate at pole; and Type 3, rugulate at equator, striate at pole.
