The heterotrophic dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans was a major component of plankton samples in the Sinop region, presenting its highest values in April 2005. Mesozooplankton abundance values showed significant differences (except 2007–2009 and 2008–2009) during the 5-year sampling period. Since the middle of 2006, an increase in abundance, biomass, and biodiversity of mesozooplankton has been detected. Many mesozooplanktonic species/groups showed seasonality in the study (especially Cladocera species). This seasonality was determined to be based on temperature changes.

Macro- and micromorphological features of fruit and seeds belonging to 12 taxa genera of Matthiola W.T.Aiton were studied via stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. In macromorphological studies, the following variables were investigated: the shape, size, and color of fruit and seeds; the length of fruiting pedicel; the structure of the median vein; stigma (horns); and trichome properties and density in fruit. In micromorphological studies, the presence or absence of seed wings, seed coat pattern in disc and wing, and epidermal cell shape in disc and wing were determined.

An analysis of the taxonomic diversity of benthic diatoms was carried out for near-shore biotopes of Crimea with different content of trace metals and organic pollutants (PCBs, PAHs, DDTs). Taxonomic distinctness indices such as average taxonomic distinctness, AvTD (Δ+) and variation in taxonomic distinctness, VarTD (Λ+) were used for evaluation of the hierarchical structure of diatom taxocenes of two intact sites (Dvuyakornaya Bay and Cape Fiolent) and two heavily polluted water areas (Sevastopol Bay and Balaklava Bay).

A spreadsheet dealing with standard deviations allows statistical examination of continuous variables associated with paraphyly in systematics, with examples in the Pottiaceae (Bryophyta). In Vietnam, several authors (Pham Hoang Ho, 1999; Nguyen Tien Ban, 2003) have taxonomically studied Myricaceae, and recorded one Myrica esculenta Buch.- Ham. ex. D. Don with three varieties; M. esculenta var. balansae Dode; M. esculenta var. chevalieri (Dode) Phamh; M. esculenta var. tonkinesis (A. Chev.) Dode. However, Chan and Huyen (2000) recognized one to two species of Myrica for Vietnam. They recognized Myrica rubra from Vietnam but did not provide any information about distribution, examined specimen, as well as morphological characteristics.

Cardinalfishes belongs to the family, Apogonidae is cryptic in nature that often shows taxonomic ambiguity through conventional taxonomy. It is globally accepted that mitochondrial DNA marker i.e., Cytochrome C Oxidase (COI) can be used to resolve these taxonomic uncertainties. In the present study, the DNA barcode was developed using COI marker for the two species of cardinalfishes (Archamia bleekeri and Ostorhinchus fleurieu) collected from Thoothukudi coast. Results showed that the distance values between the two species are higher than that of within the species.

The tree was introduced into America for silkworm culture in early colonial times and naturalized and hybridized with the native red mulberry. This study presents macro- and micromorphological characters, including fruit and seed shape, size, colour, fruiting pedicel size, fruit hair and density, seed coat pattern, epidermal cell shape, and anticlinal and periclinal cell walls. The results showed that the morphological characteristics of the fruit and seed could be used as criteria to distinguish genera and tribes.
