Moths of genus Dendrolimus (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae) are among the major pests of coniferous forests worldwide. Taxonomy and nomenclature of this genus are not entirely established, and there are many species with a controversial taxonomic position. We present a comparative evolutionary analysis of the most economically important Dendrolimus species in Eurasia.

Two species of Whalleya from Guizhou and Hainan Provinces were collected during the investigation of Xylariales from 2019 to 2021. According to morphological and molecular characteristics, Whalleya hainanensis sp. nov. and W. microplaca are introduced. Whalleya hainanensis differs from W. microplaca by its obovoid or tubular perithecia and the slightly raised stromata; and differs from W. maculata by its smaller ascospores. Their detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations are provided. The taxonomic position of Whalleya is discussed.

A new species, Comalcandona gibsoni sp. nov., was found from Comal Springs, Comal County, Texas, USA. The new species has four horn-like projections located on the antero- and posterodorsal ends of the valves and this unique character separates this species from Comalcandona tressleri. Some other distinguishing differences in chaetotaxy (e.g., position, length, and number of setae on the segments) can also be seen in the soft body parts (e.g., absence of gamma seta on mandibula, duckbill shape of clasping organ of first leg, numbers of whorls in Zenker’s organ).

Tragopogon porrifolius occurs in Turkey with 3 taxonomically confused subspecies: T. porrifolius subsp. eriospermus, T. porrifolius subsp. longirostris, and T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus. In the present paper, T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus endemic to Turkey is raised at specific level based on morphological and molecular analysis. After detailed assessment of original herbarium specimens and literature studies, we found that this name is not typified yet.

The outcomes of our integrative taxonomic analyses, viz. the combination of morphological and molecular datasets are publications of herpetofaunal lists for such regions, reserves or provinces, including first regional or country records of species or even new species discoveries (Ziegler & Nguyen 2015). Also species group revisions and positioning of poorly known or newly described species in phylogenetic trees help to better understand diversity and uncover cryptic, viz. hidden diversity.

Estimating the phylogenetic position of bacterial and archaeal organisms by genetic sequence comparisons is considered as the gold-standard in taxonomy. This is also a way to identify the species of origin of the sequence.

This paper describes a new species of earthworm (Pheretima paraalexandri sp.n.) which was found in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. In addition, this paper also discusses the taxonomical position of Pheretima polychaetifera Thai, 1984. Pheretima paraalexandri Nguyen, sp.n. is the largest sized worm in the Mekong Delta.

An orthologous group (OG) comprises a set of orthologous and paralogous genes that share a last common ancestor (LCA). OGs are defined with respect to a chosen taxonomic level, which delimits the position of the LCA in time to a specified speciation event.

In this paper, we updated the list of monogenean species from marine fishes of Vietnam. Taxonomic position of monogenean species were arranged according to the current classification system. A total of 220 monogenean species from 152 marine fish species were listed. Distribution, hosts and references of each species were given. In addition, amendations of taxonomic status of taxa were also updated.

Swine wastewater poses chemical and biological risks because it contains high concentrations of ammonia and diverse species of pathogens. Herein, a vetiver-Dictyosphaerium sp. co-culture for the rapid removal of ammonia and the effective inactivation of pathogens was developed. Plants and microalgae benefited mutually and co-utilized the nutrients in the wastewater in the co-culture. The pathogens were inactivated by reactive oxygen species that were released by the microalgae as well as the supersaturated concentrations of dissolved oxygen in the enclosed bioreactor.

Ehretia asperula, popular as a medicinal herb that has potential on cancer treatment, has a limited research about its phylogeny relationships. With many innovative advancements in molecular biology, it is more easy and reliable to identify the taxonomic position of a species by molecular markers- DNA barcode. In this study, we used three different markers, ITS1, trnL-trnF, and matK, to evaluate E. asperula’s systematic position. Based on ITS1 sequence, E. asperula belongs to clade Ehretia I and is a close relative of E. resinosa.

The genus Malcolmia W.T.Aiton is taxonomically problematic, and some of its species have recently beentransferred to the genera Strigosella Boiss. and Zuvanda Dvorák. Three species of this genus are native to Turkey. The revision studies based on molecular data, which were collected in the past few years, display the phylogenetic relations and the systematic positions of the taxa more reliably and apparently.

Characteristics of the stem leaf transitional zone in some species of Caesalpinioideae (Leguminosae)
The vascular supply of the proximal, middle, and distal parts of the petiole were studied in 11 caesalpinioid species with the aim of documenting any changes in vascular anatomy that occurred within and between the petioles. The characters that proved to be taxonomically useful include vascular trace shape, pericyclic fibre forms, number of abaxial and adaxial vascular bundles, number and relative position of secondary vascular bundles, accessory vascular bundle status.

Results showed that qualitative characters represent considerable variations within the section, some of which such as outline shape of the peduncle cross section, density of papillae on hair surface, and position of cavities in peduncles are taxonomically important characters to differ annual species from perennials in the section.

Scorzonera zorkunensis Coskuncelebi & S.Makbul (Asteraceae) is described and illustrated from Turkey. It grows on serpentine in alpine steppe vegetation together with several endemic Scorzonera L. species in southern Anatolia at altitudes of 2075-2100 m. It is morphologically similar to S. pisidica Hub.-Mor., but it differs in its habit and stem and leaf pubescence.

Seven Centaurea L. s.l (Asteraceae) taxa endemic to Turkey were examined in terms of anatomical and molecular aspects to contribute to their taxonomic positions. Numerical analysis of the 13 anatomical traits showed that average row number of collenchyma and the arrangements of the vascular bundles in the stem, leaf type, and abaxial surface of leaf epidermal tissue were important to determine the investigated taxa.

The possible chromosome rearrangements during evolution of the genus are discussed. It is suggested that the ancestral section of the genus Echinops is Oligolepis, and the most modern one Echinops. The results allowed for the verification of the taxonomic position of some Echinops species, which previously were classified based only on morphological characteristics.

Although Opuntia species are of high agronomic value in Korea, the taxonomic position of Korean Opuntia species has never been investigated. The taxonomic position of Korean Opuntia spp. within the tribe Opuntieae was examined based on DNA sequence analysis of matK, trnL-F, atpB-rbcl, and ITS regions.
