Tea plantation crop

A total 200 soil samples were collected from tea plantation areas of district, Jorhat, Assam and were assessed for entomopathogenic nematodes using the Galleria baiting technique. Out of 200 soil samples, EPNs were found in 1 soil samples collected from Experimental farm for plantation crops, Section-4,10,19AAU, Jorhat with 0.5% frequency of occurrence.

Native isolates of EPNs, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora and Oscheius chongmingensis were isolated from the tea plantation crop of Jorhat district of Assam and were tested against tea mosquito bug Helopeltis theivora andbunch caterpillar, Andraca bipunctata through mortality test under laboratory condition. For that 5, 10, 50, 100,150, 200 and 250 infective juveniles of each isolate were inoculated per insect. The insect mortality was observed after 24, 48, 72 and 96h exposure.

Branch canker caused by Macrophoma theicola is a major stem disease of tea plants (Camellia spp.). In tea plantations, this disease causes crop loss and it is one of the major limiting factor for yield stagnation. In very few instances it causes considerable damage in new clearings (about 3 or 4 years old) and large number of bushes have been killed.

Entotomopathogenic nematodes (Steinernema sp.) isolated from the soil samples in the Barak Valley of Assam, India. The nematodes were isolated by baiting technique using greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella). Soil samples were collected during rabbi and monsoon season from the different locality of Barak Valley especially from crop fields, rubber plantation, pineapple garden, tea gardens and also from rhizospheric soil of bamboo bushes. Nematodes are isolated from rhizospheric soil of Bamboo and from crop field.

A study was conducted to analyze the marketing cost, price spread, marketing channels, and marketing efficiency of different tea plantation farms in Mokokchung district of Nagaland state, both primary and secondary data were used. The primary data pertained to the year 2018-19 and was elicited from 90 tea plantation cultivators and 10 market intermediaries were also selected for the data collection through pre-tested questionnaires. Total cost of tea production for small farm size category was accounted to be Rs 34627.20/-, out of which total variable cost was Rs 24734.80/- and total fixed cost was Rs 9402.40/-.
