Ebook "Geomechanics and fluidodynamics: With applications to reservoir engineering" consists of two lecture courses given by the author to graduate and postgraduate students of the Gubkin Oil and Gas Academy in Moscow. The first course consists of lectures on underground hydrodynamics which I now give and which were initiated long ago by my teacher, Professor Isaak A. Charny. The second course reflects recent studies conducted by the laboratory on Applied Geomechanics in the United Institute of Earth Physics.

This research aims at examining the extent to which first-year students in a Bachelor in English Language Programme in Vietnam are ready for autonomy learning. With the quantitative approach and the adapted Nguyen and Habok’s Learner Autonomy Perception Questionnaire by Nguyen and Habok (2021), 180 freshmen in the programme were asked to make their choice against a range of statements related to beliefs about teacher’s and learner’s roles, students’ motivation and desire in studying foreign language.

This research was conducted with the exploratory survey to examine learner autonomy in EFL classes in Vietnam, where e-learning has recently been made mandatory due to the Covid 19 pandemic. It involved the total participation of 20 teachers and 100 students randomly selected from five Vietnamese tertiary institutions. Results showed a good understanding of the course instructors about the importance of learner autonomy in the online courses and the need to promote it. The students, however, were not well aware of their self-regulated learning tasks.

Moved with the conviction that learners and learners’ preferences are of crucial importance in the development of learner autonomy, I asked approximately 300 students of Advanced Education Programme at National Economics University, to state their views as to how they prefer learning Reading skills. Many researches have been examined learner autonomy in other countries in recent years. Teachers’ beliefs and practices towards learner autonomy at the tertiary level in Vietnam are, however, very marginalized and neglected. The paper is drawn upon the findings of our research incorporating videostimulated recall as a research technique in stimulated recall interviews in order to explore Vietnamese teachers’ beliefs and practices regarding learner autonomy. Data, which included interviews, videotaping, and observation, were collected with four EFL teachers with at least 5 years of experience at four universities in Hanoi, Vietnam. Findings show that the technique produces a maximum opportunity for reflective thought for the teachers involved.
