Teacher perceptions

This study investigates the perceptions of 43 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers regarding the benefits and challenges associated with using new textbooks in high school settings. The research employs a combination of questionnaire surveys and semistructured interviews to explore teachers’ perceptions and experiences.

The study applies a questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, classroom observations and teaching materials to collect data from seven teachers at Le Huu Trac (LHT) High School. The findings reveal that most teachers appreciate socio-cultural integrations (SCI) and agree that SCI does not prevent progress in terms of language accuracy.

This study explored the gaps in the literature through a qualitative study with a small group of VET practitioners placed within the one TAFE site, who, between them, showed some variety within their background and practice. Seven VET teachers were interviewed regarding their current use of eLearning within their teaching practice; including current understandings and use of technology, what issues they experienced, and how they felt the use of e-Learning had impacted them and their learners, specifically in relation to learner engagement.

The present study investigates teachers‘ perceptions of the values of the CEFR, the perceived readiness and necessity of its application, and the work involved in its application process. Also, it explores teachers‘ responses to the use of the CEFR to renew the general English curriculum, reflected in how they changed their teaching activities, adapted the assigned textbooks and modified their assessment practice. The triangulated data results are surprisingly revealing in many essential aspects of vocabulary instruction, ranging from selecting vocabulary, teaching vocabulary directly and indirectly, explaining vocabulary meanings, teaching vocabulary through skills in various teaching phases in class. Hopefully, the findings of the study have provided an insightful understanding of vocabulary teaching practices in the primary school settings in Vietnam. From these empirical findings, relevant implications are suggested for better vocabulary instruction to young learners in Vietnam.
