Surgical management of fibrosarcoma of teat in a cow – A case report

A seven year old cross bred jersey presented with an ulcerated growth on the right fore teat with dribbling of milk. By ultrasonographical examination the teat diameter and thickness of the teat wall were measured. Under xylazine sedation with local analgesia the growth was excised and the defect was corrected surgically. Postoperative administration of antibiotics, analgesics were given and healing was studied using ultrasonography. Histopathological examination confirmed the condition as fibrosarcoma. The animal recovered uneventfully with apparently normal milk from the affected teat.

Mastitis prevalence in villages of district Sonipat and Panipat, Haryana

The outbreak of mastitis lead to heavy economic losses in dairy industries by deteriorating the quality and quantity of milk. Inappropriate usage of antimicrobials such as wrong dose, drug or duration may contribute to the increase in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) without improving the outcome of treatment. Mastilep, a non-antibiotic polyherbal gel containing herbal ingredients is generally applied on udder and teats as precautionary measure and for treatment of subclinical mastitis and clinical mastitis as a co therapeutic medicine along with the prescribed doses of antibiotics.

Nutritive sucking is a complex activity, the biomechanical components of which may vary in relation to respiratory phase, swallow-rate per minute, suck-swallow ratio, and swallow non-inspiratory flow (SNIF). Quantitative measurement of these components during nutritive sucking in healthy infants could help us to understand the complex development of sucking, swallowing, and breathing.
