  • Ebook "Evolution of Laurussia: A study in late Paleozoic plate tectonics" aims at providing earth scientists with an overview of the late Palaeozic evolution of North America, Europe, the Arctic and North Africa in a plate tectonic framework. The late Palaeozoic evolution of Laurussia is illustrated by a set of 10 interpretative palaeotectonic-palaeogeographic maps. These are supported by a sequence of reconstructions of the distribution of the continents in the Western Hemisphere.

  • A submarine area close to the Turkish and Greek border between the cities of Samos-Greece and Seferihisar-Turkey has been shaked on October 30, 2020 by a Mw= 6.9 earthquake. In this study, the finite source mechanism of the Samos earthquake was investigated using geodetic methods and the coseismic behavior of the earthquake was modeled. The observed coseismic displacements at 62 sites were inverted for the fault geometry and the slips. The mainshock did not generate an on-land surface rupture. However, the uniform slip modeling shows a finite source of 43.

  • Varto and the surrounding region have important geothermal fields, developing in strike-slip tectonic setting in East Anatolia, which resulted from the collision of the Arabian and Eurasian plates. The main structural elements in the area are the NE-trending sinistral and NW-trending dextral strike-slip fault segments and N-S trending extension zones. In order to determine fault-controlled geothermal circulation, it is very important to fully characterize the structural elements in these complex environments.

  • Knowledge of heat flow density on the Earth’s surface and subsurface temperature distribution is essential for the interpretation of several processes in the crust such as for the evaluation of the geothermal potential of a region. With this study, we investigate the conductive heat flow distribution in western Anatolia to understand the thermal state and its relationship to regional tectonics in the region. The new heat flow data are collected and combined with previously published data to obtain the new heat flow map of western Anatolia.

  • Benxi area, Northeastern China, is the main distribution area of Archean BIF-hosted iron deposits in China. I n this area, Nanfen iron deposit is well known as the largest open-pit iron deposit not only in China but also in Asia. So far, the tectonic nature during Archean BIF formation period in Benxi area has been long disputed and the tectonic setting of Nanfen BIF had not been found. In this study, the geochemical characters of chlorite amphibolites closely associated with BIF have been investigated for the tectonic environment of Nanfen BIF.

  • High-pressure and ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic rocks crop out widely in the northern Aegean. In many instances their ages and tectonic setting are poorly constrained. Here we report newly discovered high-pressure rocks of continental crustal origin and of Late Cretaceous age southwest of the Marmara Sea. They occur at the contact between the Rhodope-Strandja Zone in the north and the Sakarya Zone in the south.

  • Although for ultrabasic and basic magmas a plethora of tectonomagmatic diagrams have been used, with the exception of one bivariate diagram for refined tectonic setting of orogenic andesites, none is available for highly abundant intermediate magma. We present 3 sets of discrimination diagrams obtained from the correct statistical methodology of loge -ratio transformation and linear discriminant analysis.

  • Integrated mineralogical and geochemical methods are utilized to investigate the provenance, paleoweathering, and depositional setting of shale from the Lower Triassic Beduh Formation in the Northern Thrust Zone, Iraq. The ~64-m-thick Beduh Formation consists of calcareous shale and marl intercalations with thin calcareous sandstone interbeds.

  • In this article, the petrological processes of the clinopyroxenite dykes and host peridotites occurring in Ulaş District (Sivas, mid-Anatolia, Turkey) are discussed. The new geochemical data from major minerals in the clinopyroxenite dykes and host harzburgites revealed differences to the supra-subduction zone (SSZ)-type pyroxenites and peridotites.

  • An abnormally odd and rare occurrence of a basaltic body has been discovered in the middle of the Gercus Formation within the large, double-plunging NW-SE trending Bekhair Anticline to the north of Duhok city, northern Iraq. This is the first discovery of such a volcanic body within the widely exposed Gercus Formation in northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey, and western Iran.

  • This is the most accessible architectural theory book that exists. Korydon Smith presents each common architectural subject—such as tectonics, use, and site—as though it were a conversation across history between theorists by providing you with the original text, a reflective text, and a philosophical text. He also introduces each chapter by highlighting key ideas and asking you a set of reflective questions so that you can hone your own theory, which is essential to both your success in the studio and your adaptability in the profession.
