This paper presented the application of Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD) for the treatment of the secondary effluent of a municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to produce fresh water. The purification studies conducted at various feed temperatures demonstrated that the permeate water flux increased and that the water flux decreased quickly at the higher feed temperature.

Industrial garden is a new approach, especially for competition in increasing pollution in the atmosphere. It helps easily to beautify the industrial areas. The lawn laid in vacant lands not only adds beauty but also cut down dust. These gardens are designed to reduce pollution and beautify the world. These units are the most sources of air, water, noise and soil pollution.

Deproteinated cheese whey was used for biomass production of probiotic strain Lactobacillus helveticus MTCC 5463 in a biofermenter. Optimization of growth parameters such as temperature, pH and time of incubation as well as nutrient supplementation of cheese whey was carried out using response surface methodology (RSM). Cheese whey supplemented with 0.95% yeast extract and 0.95% proteose peptone, inoculated with 6% (v/v) active culture of L. helveticus MTCC 5463 and fermented for 24 h at optimized temperature of 40ºC and pH 6.25 yielded 3.25 g/L dry cell biomass and 14.

Influence of substitution of 3d metals for Mn on properties of La0.67Ca0.33Mn0.9 TM0.1O3 (TM = Fe, Co, Ni) compounds was studied. Ferromagnetic – paramagnetic and metals – insulator transitions were significantly affected by Mn-site substitution. However, no observable difference was found in their crystal structure from X-ray diffraction analysis. At room temperature the structure characterization of these compounds gave the single phase and structure is the distortion orthorhombic cell with space group symmetry Pnma.

The objective of the present work is to study the irradiation effects on third generation SiC fibers which fulfill the minimum requisites for nuclear applications, i.e. Hi-Nicalon type S, hereafter HNS, and Tyranno SA3, hereafter TSA3. With this purpose, these fibers have been ion-irradiated with 4 MeV Au ions at room temperature and increasing fluences.

The use of solar energy has been adduced as an alternative way for generating electricity. This electricity is generated by solar panel but as temperature increases efficiency of panel decreases too. The main objective of this research paper is to minimize the use of the amount of water, electrical energy and required time needed for cooling of a solar panel.

Academic Article: Hot Weather Comparative Heat Balances in Pervious Concrete and Impervious Concrete Pavement Systems focuses on a site in Iowa where both a pervious concrete and a traditional concrete paving system have been installed and where temperatures were recorded within the systems for extended time periods. The analyses cover days with negligible antecedent precipitation and high air temperatures, which are extreme conditions for UHI impact.

An immuno-homologue of maize Ca2+/calmodulin (CaM)dependent protein kinase with a molecular mass of 72 kDa was identified in pea. The pea kinase (PsCCaMK) was upregulated in roots in response to low temperature and increased salinity. Exogenous Ca2+ application increased the kinase level and the response was faster than that obtained following stress application. Low temperaturemediated, but not salinity-mediated stress kinase increase was inhibited by the application of EGTA and W7, a CaM inhibitor....

The thermal stabilityofperoxidase fromleavesof theAfrican oil palm treeElaeis guineensis(AOPTP) at pH 3.0 was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), intrinsic fluorescence, CD and enzymatic assays. The spectral parameters asmonitoredby ellipticity changes in the far-UV CD spectrum of the enzyme as well as the increase in tryp-tophan intensity emission upon heating, together with changes in enzymatic activity with temperature were seen to be good complements to the highly sensitive but integral methodofDSC....

The interaction of bacterial endotoxins [lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and theendotoxic principle lipid A], with high-den-sity lipoprotein (HDL) from serum was investigated with a variety of physical techniques and biological assays. HDL exhibited an increase in the gel to liquid crystalline phase transition temperature Tc and a rigidification of the acyl chains of the endotoxins as measured by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and differential scanningcalorimetry.

NADHoxidase fromThermus thermophilusis a homodimer with anunknownphysiological function. As is typical for an enzyme isolated froma thermophile, the catalytic rate, kcat,is low at low temperatures and increases with temperature, achieving an optimum at the physiological temperature of the organism,i.e. at 70CforT. thermophilus.Atlow temperatures, thekcatof several enzymes from thermophilic and mesophilic organisms can be increased by chaotropic agents.

We report herein the first molecular characterization of 5¢-deoxy-5¢-methyl-thio-adenosine phosphorylase II from Sulfolobus solfataricus(SsMTAPII). The isolated gene of SsMTAPII was overexpressed inEscherichia coli BL21. Purified recombinant SsMTAPII is a homohexamer of 180 kDa with an extremely low Km(0.7lm) for 5¢-deoxy-5¢-methylthioadenosine. The enzyme is highly thermophilic with an optimum temperature of 120C and extremely thermostable with an apparent Tmof 112C that increases in the presence of substrates....

Citrobacter freundiil-tyrosine phenol-lyase (TPL) was inactivated by a Pictet–Spengler reaction between the cofactor and a substrate, 3,4-dihyd-roxyphenyl-l-alanine (l-dopa), in proportion to an increase in the reaction temperature. Random mutagenesis of the tpl gene resulted in the genera-tion of a Thr15 to Ala mutant (T15A), which exhibited a two-fold improved activity towards l-DOPA as the substrate.

DNA-binding proteins from starved cells (Dps proteins) protect bacteria primarily from oxidative damage. They are composed of 12 identical subunits assembled with 23-symmetry to form a compact cage-like struc-ture known to be stable at temperatures 70C and over a wide pH range. Thermosynechococcus elongatus Dps thermostability is increased dramatically relative to mesophilic Dps proteins.

Check out these fast facts for a snapshot of Earth's evolving climate. ∗ There is little doubt that the planet is warming. Over the last century the average temperature has climbed about 1 degree Fahrenheit (0.6 of a degree Celsius) around the world. The spring ice thaw in the Northern Hemisphere occurs 9 days earlier than it did 150 years ago, and the fall freeze now typically starts 10 days later. ∗ The multinational Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA) report recently concluded that in Alaska, western Canada, and eastern Russia, average temperatures have increased as much as 4 to 7...

Definition “The earth is a natural greenhouse and is kept warm by water vapors, carbon dioxide (CO2), and other gases in the atmosphere, which absorb the sun’s energy and radiate it back toward the earth. This type of warming is called ‘natural greenhouse effect’. ‘Enhanced greenhouse effect’, on the other hand, causes global warming due to excessive levels of CO2 in the atmosphere.” Facts Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
