Temperature on population growth
-
Ebook "Modelling our changing World" focuses on the concepts, tools and techniques needed to successfully model ever-changing time-series data. It emphasizes the need for general models to account for the complexities of the modern world and how these can be applied to a range of issues facing Earth, from modelling volcanic eruptions, carbon dioxide emissions and global temperatures, to modelling unemployment rates, wage inflation and population growth.

The study aimed to investigate the growth rate and the population size of the copepod Apocyclops dengizicus under different culture conditions of salinity, temperature, and diet. Five salinities, four levels of temperature, and four diet ratios of baker’s yeast and the microalgae were employed for a 20-day experiment.

Due to climate change, abiotic and biotic stresses like soil salinity, drought, pH, high temperature and plant fungal diseases are major threat for agriculture production and which reduces the growing demand of food of the population. To cope the adverse effect of such stresses, use of wide variety of synthetic chemical fertilizers cause serious hazardous effects on environment, soil, water and human health. Use of microorganisms as a bioinoculants is a new green eco-friendly technology for sustainable agriculture production and can lessen the effect of these stresses.

A developed human society in today’s era needs advancement in food production and yield to feed the ever blooming monstrous population. The existing feed supply resources are however confronted with a variety of environmental complexities like the global warming, curtailment of the agricultural lands and deterioration of the resources supporting the crop production. Abiotic stress like heat, cold, drought, flood, heavy metal etc create unfavourable condition for crop plant which effect its growth, survival and reproduction.

Genetic gain in Testcrosses derived from heat tolerant multi-parental synthetic populations of maize
Heat stress due to prolonged high ambient temperature during critical growth stages is a serious threat to crop production worldwide. Though being a C4 crop, maize has relatively wider adaptation, however, weather extremes such as heat stress is challenging its threshold limits. There is an absolute requirement of heat tolerant cultivars in the present condition as climate change has a become reality.

The reliability of New Zealand’s electricity supply improved from 1995 to 2000, but has not shown any signifi cant improvement in recent years. The national average real electricity price fell by about a quarter between 1979 and 1993, but has since risen to be about the same as it was in 1979. The available data on transport infrastructure are more limited. As is typical of other sparsely populated OECD countries, New Zealand has a relatively extensive roading network relative to other OECD countries. It also has similar levels of road traffi c to the OECD mean.

Global change, including climate change, ecosystem shifts and biodiversity loss as a result of explosive human population growth and consumption, is emerging as one of the most important issues of our time (Vitousek, 1994). Climate change in particular appears to be altering the function, structure and stability of the Earth’s ecosystems (Lovelock, 2009). It has been marked by an 80% increase in atmospheric CO2 level and a 0.
