  • Coral reefs and the services it provide are seriously threatened by ocean acidification and climate change impacts like coral bleaching. Carbon dioxide and sea surface temperature are the two most important variable in connection to coral bleaching events. Understanding effects of the two is empirical in uncovering new information and relationships of bleaching events with local and global environmental properties (SST and CO2).

  • Wet periods are evidenced by dark olive green mixed lithology (sandy, clay, and silts) and high values in MS and log(Sr/Ca). On the other hand, dry periods are associated with light olive green clayey mud lithology and high values in log(Ca/K). We relate the wet periods to negative North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO–) and the dry periods to NAO+. Additionally, all wet periods are related with time of low solar activity and dry periods, except Dalton Minimum, are related with periods of high solar activity.

  • The main aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of montmorillonite clay for the adsorption of C.I. Basic Yellow 2 (BY2) dye from aqueous media. The experimental results were processed by response surface methodology based on a central composite design (CCD). The effect of four main variables, including initial BY2 concentration, adsorbent dosage, reaction time, and temperature on the removal of BY2 was evaluated by the model. The accuracy of the model and regression coefficients was appraised by employing analysis of variance.

  • The temporal and spatial variability of sea surface temperature (SST), sea surface wind and the chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentration in the Gulf of Tonkin is analyzed based on satellite data for one year 2002. The analysis results indicated that monthly and spatial variations of the chl-a are primarily associated with the monsoonal winds activity and sea surface temperature distributions.

  • The search for optimum design variables is conducted by using a recent heuristic method, namely Grey Wolf Optimizer. During the heuristic search, direct heat conduction problem has to be solved several times. The set of heat transfer parameters that lead to smallest error rate between computed temperature field and reference one is the optimum output of the inverse problem. In order to accelerate the process, the model order reduction technique Proper-Orthogonal-Decomposition (POD) is used.

  • A study was conducted at tea growing regions of Assam to see the effect of climatic parameter on production of tea. Average production of tea started to diminish from 1992 and the trend had continued upto 2009. However, after 2010 the average production of tea started to increase. Results of correlation and regression analysis showed that except ‘number of rainy days’ other four variables (Temperature Range, Relative Humidity Range, Rainfall and Bright Sun Shine hours) are found to be significant.

  • Formation of reducing sugars during low temperature storage of red beet is detrimental for processing, consumption as vegetable and easily deteriorated when exposed to high temperatures. Most of the analytical methods are time consuming, cost effective and laborious. So, assessing internal red beet quality through statistical methods is alternative as mathematical modeling does not take error in to consideration. These equations contain few parameters and the storability of the product could be predicted before keeping it for storage based on the dependent parameters.

Analysis has estimated the seasonal boundaries in time according to the instantaneous frequency in cycles/day and the estimations are verified with studying power spectrum of the time series. Two boundaries are obtained in each analysis over the average of yearly analysis of four years.

Weather affects all stages of the long development cycle and thus there is likely to be extended predictability based on climate variability. An attempt is being made to relate the coconut sample survey data of Coconut Development Board with climate data of Chanrayapatna taluk of Hassan district. Mean nut yield per palm, per year in the Chanrayapatna taluk was 83.3. Among the villages, Baldare recorded significantly lower nut yield (78.
