Tetracycline antibiotic determination

In vitro antimicrobial susceptibility of Listeria monocytogenes isolated from the imported and the domestic foods in Japan was determined by plate dilution method. Eleven isolates from domestic meat, meat products, liver, seafood and environment, and 16 isolates from imported meat and meat products were examined their susceptibilities against ampicillin, chloramphenicol, enrofloxacin, erythromycin, gentamicin, kanamycin, penicillin and tetracycline.

In the present study, PLS has been used to identify and quantify tetracycline and chlortetracycline without separation steps. In mixtures of one or two components, the use of chemometric tools avoided spectral interference between the target substances. The predictive ability of calibration models was evaluated and showed satisfactory results.

In this work, an ultrasonic-assisted surfactant/ionic liquid aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) extraction method was developed to extract six tetracycline antibiotics from food samples before their chromatographic determination using high performance liquid chromatography. The ATPS was formed with 1-allyl-3-methyl-imidazolium bromide, Triton X-100, and dipotassium hydrogen phosphate. The parameters including type and amount of surfactant, ionic liquid and salt, pH of sample solution, and sonication time were optimized.

The effect of mutations conferring antibiotic resistance can depend on the genetic background. To determine if a previously de novo acquired antibiotic resistance influences the adaptation to a second antibiotic, antibiotic resistance was selected for by exposure to stepwise increasing sublethal levels of amoxicillin, enrofloxacin, kanamycin, or tetracycline.

The present study have been carried out to determine the effect of nanosilver and antibiotics separately and in combination on Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates. The combined effect of the silver nanoparticles with antibiotics was assessed in comparison to antibiotics, with well diffusion method. It was observed that the collective effect of silver nanoparticles with antibiotics was additive. The activity of the three antibiotics: gentamycine. ampicillin, and tetracycline with nanoparticles, against Pseudomonas aeruginosa was shown as percentage enhancement in antibacterial effect.

Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of 29 Lactobacillus isolates was determined by E-test strip method according to CLSI and EFSA, 2012 standards. All isolates displayed resistance towards aminoglycosides while 63% of isolates were found resistant to amikacin (MIC 16-256 µg/ml). Strains S8a and S8b (L. rhamnosus and L. acidophilus) were resistant to tetracycline (MIC 256 µg/ml).

This study aimed to investigate the bacterial contamination of flake and cube ice being used daily in the community. Thirty-one ice samples were collected from different areas in the city of Can Tho, Vietnam. The enumeration of total aerobic mesophilic counts, presence of coliforms and Escherichia coli (E. coli) and determination of antibiotics resistance of E. coli isolates were examined. The results indicated that total aerobic mesophilic counts ranged from 2.5 to 6.

The antibacterial activity of Betel leaf was studied to screen their ability to inhibit the growth of bacterial pathogens i.e. E. coli, B. cereus, P. aeruginosa and S. typhi. The organisms were subjected to antibiotic sensitivity towards, Ampicillin, Chloramphenicol, Penicillin, Rifampicin, Gentamycin, Tetracycline, Ciprofloxacin, Norfloxacin, Kanamycin, Azithromycin, Ceftazidine, Amikacin, Ofloxacin, Vancomycin and Teicoplanin. S.typhi was the most susceptible organism towards all the tested antibiotics. E. coli, B. cereus and P. aeruginosa were multidrug resistant organisms.
