Currently, the ability to convert raw materials from lignocellulose-rich biomass by traditional methods has many limitations. Therefore, the objective of the thesis is to exploit a variety of biocatalysts (hydrolases) from fungi to efficiently convert lignocellulose-rich biomass from ABP into sugars (C5 and C6) capable of fermenting for bioethanol production. The thesis uses "enzyme cocktail" synergistic catalyst to increase the ability of biological transformation.

A Chaetoceros strain was successfully isolated to a unialgal state from Giao Thuy mangrove and identified to be of Chaetoceros muelleri species based on morphological properties and 18S rDNA sequence analysis. ASW medium together with 250/00 of salinity was found to be best suitable for the growth of this strain and was applied to its biomass production.

Deproteinated cheese whey was used for biomass production of probiotic strain Lactobacillus helveticus MTCC 5463 in a biofermenter. Optimization of growth parameters such as temperature, pH and time of incubation as well as nutrient supplementation of cheese whey was carried out using response surface methodology (RSM). Cheese whey supplemented with 0.95% yeast extract and 0.95% proteose peptone, inoculated with 6% (v/v) active culture of L. helveticus MTCC 5463 and fermented for 24 h at optimized temperature of 40ºC and pH 6.25 yielded 3.25 g/L dry cell biomass and 14.

Sweet sorghum is a new generation bio-energy crop with considerable tolerance to drought and salinity and amenable for multiple uses. Sweet sorghum has elicited the interest of breeder due to its capacity to provide renewable energy products, industrial commodities, food and animal feed. The sweet sorghum donor RSSV 313 is developed through a cross NSS223 x NARI 111 at MPKV, Rahuri through pedigree selection as identified and recommended as a donor parent in crop improvement programme based on specific physiological traits viz.

Interspecific hybrids between cultivars of pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] with 2n = 2x = 14 and its wild relative Napier Grass [Pennisetum purpureum (K.) Schum] with 2n = 4x = 28, which have multicut behaviour, perennial nature, high biomass and drought tolerance traits for crop improvement, were obtained by cross hybridization. Twenty hybrid progenies were obtained and then examined based on the morphological traits. Nine of them were confirmed to be true interspecific hybrids.

The strain S. deserticola can grow well heterotrophically without light and maximum algal biomass was 11,22 g/l after cultivation of 14 days. Highest lipid content under heterotrophic growth was 52,58%, which was about 2,4 times that in photoautotrophic cultivation.

This paper focuses on an autotrophic cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris, in low nitrogen-content media, using indoor photobioreactors. Nutritional factors, which controlled the Chlorella growth and the chemical composition of cells (i.e., proteins, carbohydrates, lipids), were studied. The moderate feeding of both N and P and/or their starvation in the photobioreactor were investigated in order to induce a high accumulation of lipids into Chorella cells.

The global annual potential bioethanol production from the major crops, corn, barley, oat, rice, wheat, sorghum, and sugar cane, is estimated. To avoid con/icts between human food use and industrial use of crops, only the wasted crop, which is de0ned as crop lost in distribution, is considered as feedstock. Lignocellulosic biomass such as crop residues and sugar cane bagasse are included in feedstock for producing bioethanol as well. There are about 73:9 Tg ofdry wasted crops in the world that could potentially produce 49:1 GL year−1 ofbioethanol.
