This study examines the costs and benefits of traditional rice production as well as of different adaptation methods to saltwater intrusion in the Central Coastal region of Vietnam. Data is collected through a structured questionnaire at the farm household level, focus groups discussion and through key informant interviews. Our results indicate that traditional rice production becomes less profitable as the level of saltwater intrusion on the land plots increases.

In order to overcome the limitation of land available for aquaculture in the central costal region of Vietnam and to reduce organic pollution in traditional integrated fish farming, a new method was developed called the ‘improved VAC’ In traditional VAC systems the manure from farm animals is released into fish ponds whereas in the ‘Improved VAC’ the manure is used for earthworm culture. The worm production is then used to feed high value fish species in tanks.

Macadamia trees (often called the tree people Mac-ca) is one of the crops of high economic value. Macadamia is the common name for nine species of the genus Macadamia, open cross Affairs (Proteaceae) in which two species have commercial value as M. integrifolia Maiden & Betche and M.tetraphylla. L. Johnson. Both species were grown in the eastern coastal regions - South and South East Queensland - Northern New Wales of Australia.
