Saline intrusion is a big challenge for the Mekong Delta region, a negative factor that greatly affects water and food security. This paper presents a study to assess the trend of saline intrusion change in the 5 coastal sub–regions between the Tien and Hau rivers in the period 1997 to 2022.

Recently, seawater intrusion (SWI) in coastal aquifers is a global issue that is exacerbated by sea-level rise, climate change, and an increasing dependency on coastal fresh groundwater resources for water supply. This paper describes the results of the examination using the GALDIT method as a model to evaluate the vulnerability of seawater intrusion.

Microplastics present in high density in coastal marine environments have been reported by many published works worldwide. Microplastic presence poses a major threat to all organisms that come into direct contact with them in the aquatic environment because they are non-biodegradable and adsorbable to some toxic substances.

With the impact of global climate change, saline intrusion into surface water in coastal areas has become a major issue. The water treatment using surface water in these areas has to deal with double issues including organic matters and salinity. This paper evaluated the trihalomethanes formation during the treatment of surface water at pilot scale using different disinfection dose and at different salinity levels.

This paper presents the results and assessment of the groundwater exploitation reserves in coastal areas of Ninh Thuan province. The research was based on determining the exploitation reserves of all grid cells with dimensions 500 m × 500 m distributed in fresh-salted water areas of the Holocene (qh) and Pleistocene (qp) aquifers. Each grid was assigned the corrected hydrogeological parameter values (depth, gravity coefficient, hydraulic conductivity, and drawdown level).

In parallel with these results, the diagrams of Gibbs et al. supported the same seawater intrusion phenomena. Brackish karst springs first roseand then fell below sea level with epirogenic movements during the geological period, and therefore, karstification progressed. The samples were oversaturated with calcite, dolomite, and quartz, whereas they were undersaturated with gypsum and halite. The Al, Cu, and Zn values of some of the water samples exceeded the tolerance limit of aquatic life standards.

The geochemical behavior of Pb in terrestrial and coastal water systems significantly influences Pb biogeochemical cycling and pollutant exchange at the land-sea continuum. An ideal case study of Pb environmental geochemistry is Galveston Bay, an anthropogenic estuary exposed to industrial runoff, wastewater and shipping vessel spills but also fed by natural rivers.

A survey was carried out in January and February, 2011, in the Tien Yen and Kalong estuaries, at which time a number of larvae and juveniles of Lateolabrax were collected, and this Vietnamese sea bass was found to differ morphomeristically with its congener (i.e., L. latus, L. japonicas and L. sp1.). This paper will for the first time describe the morphology of Lateolabrax juveniles (L. sp2.) found in what is now thought to be the southern limit of their habitat.

The sustainability and prosperity of the ancient civilizations of China, Egypt, Babylonia, Phoenicia, Persia and Roma were based on the extensive use of water for human consumption, crop irrigation, canal navigation and energy generation. Today, the worldwide scarcity of water and clean energy constitutes a central and critical problem for the whole humankind. This situation is aggravated as industrial, agricultural and municipal effl uents reach the water bodies, or the coastal seawater that is used as feed for desalination plants.
