The displacement discontinuities

In this study, rectangular plates subjected to static loads and supported on a discontinuous two-parameter elastic foundation are analyzed. The formulae for the computations are developed from improved shear deformation theory, where the displacement w is divided into bending and shear strain components.

This paper describes some results from the analysis of cracked plates using XFEM. Extended finite elements allow the entire crack to be represented independently of the meshing. The elements employ discontinuous functions and the facture mechanics two dimensional asymptotic crack tip displacement fields. The Fortran source code of Cast3M applies these elements to a set of examples.

In this paper, the finite element for cohesive crack for quasi-brittle materials is constructed by XFEM, which allows incorporation of the displacement discontinuities in the element. The algorithm of construction and procedures for involving this finite element into code Cast3M are presented. The numerical calculations in fracture mechanics are presented to demonstrate the benefits of the proposed implementation.

In Sayeed and Szpakowicz (2004), we proposed a parser inspired by some aspects of the Minimalist Program. This incremental parser was designed specifically to handle discontinuous constituency phenomena for NPs in Latin. We take a look at the application of this parser to a specific kind of apparent island violation in Latin involving the extraction of constituents, including subjects, from tensed embedded clauses.
