Anharmonic effective potential, local force constant and correlation effects in XAFS of BCC crystals
Analytical expressions for the anharmonic effective potential, local force constant, Displacement-displacement Correlation Function (DCF) CR and Debye-Waller factor described by the Mean Square Relative Displacement (MSRD) σ2 and by the Mean Square Displacement (MSD) u2of bcc crystals in the X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) have been derived. The effective interatomic potential of the system has been considered by taking into account the influences of nearest atomic neighbors, and it contains the Morse potential characterizing the interaction of each pair of atoms.

Uncoupling protein-3 (UCP3) is a mitochondrial innermembrane protein abundantly expressed in rodent and human skeletal muscle which may be involved in energy dissipation. Many studies have been performed on the metabolic regulation of UCP3 mRNA level, but little is known about UCP3 expression at the protein level. Two populations of mitochondria have been described in skeletal muscle, subsarcolemmal (SS) and intermyofibrillar (IMF), which differ in their intracellular localization and possibly also their metabolic role....

The siglecs (sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectins) are a distinct subset of the Ig superfamily with adhesion-molecule-like structure. We describe here a novel member of the siglec protein family that shares a similar structure including five Ig-like domains, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail containing two ITIM-signaling motifs. Siglec10 was identified through database mining of an asthmatic eosinophil EST library. Using the Stanford G3 radiation hybrid panel we were able to localize the genomic sequence of siglec-10 within the cluster of genes on chromosome 19q13.

During the development of multicellular organisms, both transient and stable gene expression patterns have to be established in a precisely orchestrated sequence. Evidence from diverse model organisms indicates that this epigenetic program involves not only transcription factors, but also the local structure, composition, and modification of chromatin, which define and maintain the accessibility and transcriptional competence of the nucleosomal DNA template.

Integrin a2b1 is the major receptor for collagens in human tissues, being involved in cell adhesion and the control of collagen and collagenase gene expression. The collagen binding site of a2b1 has been localized to the a2 von Willebrand Factor type A (VWFA) domain (A-domain or I-domain) and the residues responsible for the interaction with collagen have been mapped. We report a study of a2 VWFA domain in which residue E318, which lies outside the collagen binding site, is mutated to tryptophan, showing that this is a gain-of-function mutation. ...

Recently, we identified novel avian and amphibian hypothalamic neuropeptides that inhibited gonadotropin release and stimulated growth hormone release. They were characterized by a similar structure including theC-terminal LPLRF-NH2motif. To clarify that the expression of these novel hypothalamicneuropeptides is aconservedproperty in vertebrates, we characterized a cDNA encoding a similar novel peptide, having LPLRF-NH2 from the goldfish brain, by a combination of 3¢and 5¢rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). ...

Glutathione reductase (GR) recycles oxidized glutathione (GSSG) by converting it to the reduced form (GSH) using an NADPH as the electron source. The function of GR in the male genital tract of the rat was examined by meas-uring its enzymatic activity and examining the gene expression and localization of the protein.

A putativeDrosophilanucleotide sugar transporter was characterized and shown to be theDrosophilahomologue of the human UDP-Gal transporter (hUGT). When the Drosophila melanogasterUDP-Gal transporter (DmUGT) was expressed in mammalian cells, the transporter protein was localized in the Golgi membranes and complemented the UDP-Gal transport de®ciency of Lec8 cells but not the CMP-Sia transport de®ciency of Lec2 cells.

We have determined the nucleotide sequence of a zebrafish cDNAclone that codes for a cellular retinol-binding protein type II (CRBPII). Radiation hybrid mapping revealed that the zebrafish and human CRBPII genes are located in syntenic groups. In situhybridization and emulsion autora-diography localized theCRBPIImRNA to the intestine and the liver of adult zebrafish.

The complete coding sequence of a BDIX rat gene homo-logous to the human ABO gene was determined. Identifi-cation of the exon–intron boundaries, obtained by comparison of the coding sequence with rat genomic sequences from data banks, revealed that the rat gene structure is identical to that of the human ABO gene. It localizes to rat chromosome 3 (q11-q12), a region homolo-gous to human 9q34.

The intrachloroplastic localization of post-transcriptional gene expression steps represents one key determinant for the regulation of chloroplast development. We have character-ized an RNA binding protein of 63kDa (RBP63) from Chlamydomonas reinhardtiichloroplasts, which cofraction-ates with stromal thylakoid membranes. Solubility proper-ties suggest that RBP63is a peripheral membrane protein.

Baculoviruses are well known for their large, circular, dou-ble-stranded DNA genomes. The type member, AcMNPV, is the best characterized andundergoes a successionof early, late and very late gene expression during its infection cycle. The viral genes involved inDNAreplicationhave previously been identified and their products are required for the acti-vation of late gene expression.

Báo cáo Y học: Regulated expression and intracellular localization of cystatin F in human U937 cells
Cystatin F is a cysteine peptidase inhibitor recently discov-ered in haematopoietic cells by cDNA cloning. To further investigate the expression, distribution and properties of the native human inhibitor the promyeloid cell line U937 has beenstudied. The cells expressedrelatively largequantities of cystatin F,which was found both secreted and intracellu-larly. The intracellular levels were unusually high for a secreted cystatin (25% of the cystatin F in 2- or 4-day culture medium).

Annexin A1 (ANX-1), a calcium-dependent, phospholipid binding protein, is known to be involved in diverse cellular processes, including regulation ofcell growth and differen-tiation, apoptosis, and inflammation. The mitogen phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) induces expression and phosphorylation ofANX-1. However, the roles of ANX-1 in PMA-induced signal transduction is unknown. Here, we study the cellular localization ofANX-1 in the PMA-induced signal transduction process.

The localization of different classes of alcohol dehydro-genases (ADH) in the brain is of great interest because of their role in both ethanol and retinoic acid metabolism. Conflicting data have been reported in the literature. By Northern blot and enzyme activity analyses only class III ADH has been detected in adult brain specimens, while results from riboprobe in situ hybridization indicate class I as well as class IV ADH expression in different regions of the rat brain.

Both of them were found to localize in the plasma membranes and cell walls. Here, we report the physiological effects of 4-kDa peptide expressed transiently in the cultured carrot and bird’s-foot trefoil cells transfected with pBI 121 plas-mid containing the 4-kDa peptide gene.

Serine⁄threonine kinase 33 (STK33⁄Stk33) is a recently discovered gene whose inferred amino acid sequence translation displays characters typical for a calcium⁄calmodulin dependent kinase (CAMK). In this study we ana-lysed the STK33⁄Stk33RNA and protein distribution and the localization of the protein. TheSTK33⁄Stk33expression pattern resembles those of some related members of the CAMK group.STK33⁄Stk33displays a non-ubiquitous and, in most tissues, low level of expression.
