This paper presents experimental and numerical investigations to assess the relative fire structural resistance of thermo-mechanically compressed (or densified) spruce wood. First of all, both compressed and uncompressed spruce samples of dimensions of 100 mm x 100 mm x 19 mm have been subjected to fire in a cone calorimeter under 20 kW/m2 and 75 kW/m2.

The objective of this study is to investigate the hotspot (fires and other thermal anomalies) detection and characterization product from the TET-1 satellite sensing system from the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). The satellite is envisioned, as part of a constellation of satellites, to provide detection and characterization of fires at a higher spatial resolution when compared to the current standard global coverage from the MODIS fire products.

While it is recognised that knitted fabrics may have their place in firefighting PPC, especially for undergarments, from the point of view of fire performance, strength and presentation, woven fabric constructions appear to be more suitable for work wear applications. Hence, this study is concerned with developing and testing a range of functional, woven Station Wear fabrics designed to enhance flame protection, durability and thermo-physiological comfort properties. In trying to improve all three aspects, a compromise in the properties of fabrics developed would be very likely.

Chemical absorption of CO2 into aqueous amine solutions using a nonstirred bubble column was experimentally investigated. The performance of CO2 absorption of four different primary and secondary amines including monoethanolamine (MEA), piperazine (PZ), 2-piperidineethanol (2PE), and homopiperazine (HPZ) were compared. The effects of initial concentration of amine, the inlet mole fraction of CO2 , and solution temperature on the rate of CO2 absorption and CO2 loading (mol CO2 /mol amine) were studied in the range of 0.02–1 M, 0.10–0.15, and 25–40 °C, respectively.

This study focuses on the improvement in fire performance, and flame retardancy (FR) properties of chopped basalt fiberreinforced acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) composites. For this purpose, different amounts of aluminum diethyl phosphinate (AlPi) compound (5, 10, and 15 wt%) were incorporated in the composites. The FR properties of the composites were examined via limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL-94 standard, and mass loss calorimeter tests.

Pultruded carbon fibre reinforced polymer (P-CFRP) is popular used in flexuralstrengthening civil engineering structures such as beams, slabs, and walls. When a fire happens, these structures and reinforced materials are simultaneously exposed to both high temperatures (potentially up to 1200°C) and mechanical loadings at the same time.

In this study, PP fibers and air entraining admixture (AEA) were used together in an high performance concrete (HPC) mix so as to create interconnected reservoirs in concrete and to improve fire performance of HPC. For this reason, nine mixes of HPC incorporating blast furnace slag with 0.24 water-to-binder ratio and various PP and AEA contents were produced. Specimens were cast in two different sizes in order to see the effect of size and 18 series of specimens were obtained.

Concrete is an inherently brittle material with a relatively low tensile strength compared to compressive strength. Reinforcement with randomly distributed short fibres presents an effective approach to the stabilization of the crack and improving the ductility and tensile strength of concrete. A variety of fibre types, including steel, synthetics, and natural fibres, have been applied to concrete. Polypropylene (PP) fibre reinforcement is considered to be an effective method for improving the shrinkage cracking characteristics, toughness, and impact resistance of concrete materials.

The paper deals with observing the behaviour of concrete composites with addition of fibres under ambient and elevated temperature with the aim to determine the mechanical properties of materials. The experimental tests were conducted on three selected concrete composites which differ in a type and content of fibrous reinforcement used. The experimental work carried out was divided into several phases. First of all it was necessary to leave the produced specimens aging and drying in order to minimize the risk of unexpected damage caused by concrete spalling during heating.
