Ebook "Fast chemical reactions in turbulent flows: Theory and practice" describes the fundamentals of fast liquid-phase chemical reactions and the principles of their scientific foundation, technical implementation and industrial application of new technologies. In addition, the equipment required to perform these reactions, in a turbulent mode in the chemical, petrochemical and petroleum industries, is also discussed. The macrokinetic approach has been developed with consideration of the diffusion, hydrodynamics, and heat transfer processes.

In the 1990s, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (TIPS) were performed using bare metal stents, and stent-induced hemolysis was a complication noted in 10% of patients. This was due to the mechanical stress created by turbulent flow from the uncovered interstices.

Ebook "Global financial stability report - Financial market turbulence: Causes, consequences, and policies" aims to deepen its readers’ understanding of global capital flows, which play a critical role as an engine of world economic growth. Of key value, the report focuses on current conditions in global financial markets, highlighting issues of financial imbalances, and of a structural nature, that could pose risks to financial market stability and sustained market access by emerging market borrowers.

An approximate method is proposed for determining the aerodynamic effect of coherent vortex structures (CVS) of atmospheric turbulence on an aircraft. As a source of the CVS the vortex wind wakes arising when the atmospheric wind flows around the mountain massif of the Son Tra peninsula, located near the Da Nang airport, and the vortex wake behind the Su-27 type aircraft in the landing configuration are considered.

In this study, instead of changing the structure of the pin-fin array, the work focused on the design of protrusion/dimple points on the leading and trailing edges. Numerical simulations using the SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulence model were performed to investigate the effect of dimple/protrusion concavity on flow structure and heat transfer characteristics in a rotating channel with pin-fin array.

The current research is undertaken by performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for a 2D aerofoil fitted with a shock control bump at a transonic flow condition. Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equation coupled with turbulence models is adopted to solve the flowfield. The bump has a conventional geometric feature which consists of a ramp, a crest and a tail, and it has eight variants for which the designed parameters are reasonably specified according to the compressible aerodynamics theory.

Human placental JEG-3 cells conserve a high P450 aromatase activity and are therefore suitable to evaluate how contaminants may interfere with the routes involved in estrogen synthesis during pregnancy. This has been traditionally assessed by measuring aromatase activity through the amount of tritiated water (3H2O) formed during the aromatization of 1β-3H-androst-4-ene-3,17-dione (3H-AD).

Eulerian-Eulerian computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models allow the prediction of complex and large-scale industrial multiphase gas–liquid bubbly flows with a relatively limited computational load. However, the interfacial transfer processes are entirely modelled, with closure relations that often dictate the accuracy of the entire model.

Airflow around the car side mirrors is one of the sensitivity zones in which the airflow is separated and detached from the mirror flat side. The turbulence created by this flow detachment can affect the airflow to the main body of the car which lies behind the mirror.

Flow and spreading behaviors of swirling jets using a dual-blockage disk are studied experimentally. The control and blockage disks are placed concentrically in tandem. The smoke flow patterns are obtained using the flow visualization technique. The axial velocity and turbulence intensity are detected using a 1-D hot-wire sensor.

Small nasotracheal tubes (NTTs) and intranasal compression of the NTT in the nasal cavity may contribute to increasing airway resistance. Since the effects of size, shape, and partial compression of the NTT on airway resistance have not been investigated, values of airway resistance with partial compression of preformed NTTs of various sizes were determined.

Drag reduction in fully developed turbulent pipe flow with 4 concentrations (200 to 500 wppm or mg/kg) of low molecular weight sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) in aqueous solutions was investigated experimentally. Drag reduction was determined by pressure drop measurements. Maximum drag reduction achieved was 22% using 500 wppm CMC solution. To observe the impact of the presence of CMC on the flow, ultrasound Doppler velocimetry (UDV) was employed to monitor the instantaneous velocity distributions.
