The purpose of this Encyclopedia of Multimedia Technology and Networking is to offer a written compendium of human knowledge related to the emerging multimedia digital metamarket. Multimedia technology, networks and online interactive multimedia services are taking advantage of a series of radical innovations in converging fields, such as the digitization of signals, satellite and fibre optic based transmission systems, algorithms for signal compression and control, switching and storage devices, and others, whose combination has a supra-additive synergistic effect.

Ebook "Polarized light and polarization vision in animal sciences (Second edition)" covers advances made since the 2004 Springer volume “Polarized Light in Animal Vision” edited by Horvath and Varju, but also provides reviews and synopses of some areas. Part I examines polarization sensitivity across many animal taxa including vertebrates and invertebrates and details both terrestrial and aquatic life.

The human visual system plays an important role in perceiving information related to the surrounding environment. Because visual cues provide more data than auditory information, visual cues are more effective than auditory cues when it comes to perceiving the information. However, in the case of visually impaired people, the lack of visual information will limit them in identifying information and people around them.

Lecture Human-computer interaction (3rd) - Chapter 1: The human. This chapter is the first of four in which we introduce some of the ‘foundations’ of HCI. We start with the human, the central character in any discussion of interactive systems. The human, the user, is, after all, the one whom computer systems are designed to assist. The requirements of the user should therefore be our first priority.

The purpose of this work we propose a complete solution for detecting and removing spots movies based on some perceived feature of the human visual system. The performance of each component is assessed through objective research extensively tested on real video. The perceived quality of the frames has been restored and are evaluated by fuzzy picture quality printing for professional use.

In this paper, a spatial saliency-guided motion-compensated deinterlacing method is proposed which accounts for the properties of the Human Visual System (HVS): Our algorithm classifies the field according to its texture and viewer’s region of interest and adapts the motion estimation and compensation, as well as the saliency-guided interpolation to ensure high-quality frame reconstruction.

This paper proposes the perceptual organization model to perform the above task. This paper addresses the outdoor scene segmentation and object classification using cluster based perceptual organization. Perceptual organization is the basic capability of the human visual system is to derive relevant grouping and structures from an image without prior knowledge of its contents.

This work focuses on the main problems of interactive object transfer between a human worker and an industrial robot: the recognition of the object with partial occlusion by barriers including the hand to the human worker, the evaluation of object grasping affordance, and coping with inaccessible grasping points. The proposed visual servoing system integrates different vision modules where each module encapsulates a number of visual algorithms responsible for visual servoing control in humanrobot collaboration.
