Humoral immune responses to infectious agents or vaccination vary substantially among individuals, and many of the factors responsible for this variability remain to be defined. Current evidence suggests that human genetic variation influences (i) serum immunoglobulin levels, (ii) seroconversion rates, and (iii) intensity of antigenspecific immune responses.

Ebook "Innate immunity of plants, animals, and humans (Nucleic acids and molecular biology, Volume 21)" wants to give an overview of our current knowledge about the innate immune system of plants, animals and humans. It not only covers the innate immune mechanisms and responses of so diverse organisms such as plants, Cnidaria, Drosophila, urochordates and zebrafish, but also the major receptor systems in mammalians and humans as well as the central defense mechanisms, antimicrobial peptides and the complement system.

Vesicular stomatitis (VS) is an acute, highly contagious and economically important zoonotic disease caused by the vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV). There is a need for effective and safe stable recombinant vaccine for the control of the disease. The human type 5 replication-defective adenovirus expression vector is a good way to construct recombinant vaccines.

Paratuberculosis (Johne‟s disease) is a chronic disease affecting livestock especially ruminants. The disease is caused by Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) an acid fast bacilli. The disease is characterized by emaciation, progressive weight loss and chronic enteritis unresponsive to treatment. This paper describes a mini review on diagnosis of Johne's disease.

Mathematical and computational models showed to be a very important support tool for the comprehension of the immune system response against pathogens. Models and simulations allowed to study the immune system behavior, to test biological hypotheses about diseases and infection dynamics, and to improve and optimize novel and existing drugs and vaccines.

The humoral immune system response is based on the interaction between antibodies and antigens for the clearance of pathogens and foreign molecules. The interaction between these proteins occurs at specific positions known as antigenic determinants or B-cell epitopes.

Nearly all uterine cervical cancer (UCC) cases result from human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. After high-risk HPV infection, most HPV infections are naturally cleared by humoral and cell-mediated immune responses. Thus, cervical lesions of only few patients progress into cervical cancer via cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and lead to persistent oncogenic HPV infection.

Although the association between H. pylori and gastric cancer has been well described, the alterations studies are scarce in the humoral immune response in specific anatomical areas of stomach and during the stages of gastric cancer. The aim in this study was to determine the influence of humoral immune responses against H. pylori infection on gastric carcinoma.

The present study was aimed to prepare a conjugate of Fc fragment of mice IgG with rOMP 28 of Brucella melitensis and investigate its ability to influence the kinetics of humoral and cellular immune response in comparison to its unconjugated counterpart and the rOMP 28 alone in the mice model.

Bursa of Fabricius, the primary lymphoid organ for B-lymphopoiesis in Avian species and is responsible for humoral immunity. Flow cytometric analysis of Bu-1a+ B-cell count and CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell count were conducted in bursa of Fabricius of four different age groups of Nandanam broiler chicken viz., day-old, two, four and six weeks. Twelve birds from each age group, from both vaccinated and non-vaccinated groups were utilised. Tissue samples of the bursa were collected aseptically and processed for flow cytometric studies using monoclonal antibodies.

The kinetics of primary and secondary immune response of Indian major carps, Catla catla, Labeo rohita and Cirrhinus mrigala to sheep red blood cells (SRBC)were studied in detail at three different age groups of 120,150 and 270 days old. Fish were immunized by injection (i.m) with 106 cells/fish of SRBC suspension. The second injection was given at 20 days after the first injection with same dose. All age groups of each species produced detectable humoral antibody titers on 6th days after the first injection.

F-1 and LaSota strains of NDV were propagated in laboratory using 10-day old embryonated hen eggs via allantoic cavity route. One group of thirty chicks were infected with F-1strain and other with LaSota strain with 105 egg infective doses in 100 µl of virus via oral and ocular route. Sequential sera samples and tracheal samples at day 0, 3,7,14, 21 and 28 post infection were collected and titre of antibodies indicative of humoral immune response was determined by indirect ELISA.

The study was undertaken to evaluate the protein levels in rabbits affected by a lysate vaccine developed from Pasteurella multocida grown under iron-restricted conditions and lysed by a bacteriophage. Serum proteins include immunoglobulins and complement which mediate humoral immune response and an assessment of protein levels can be of clinical relevance being an indicator of humoral immune response. Two groups of rabbits were immunized with lysate vaccine (LV) and conventional alum precipitated killed HS vaccine (CV) and blood was collected at various days post – immunization (DPI).

In the present study, we developed a killed and LPS based Brucella suis vaccine and evaluated the humoral and cell mediated immune response in mice. Brucella suis isolated from field and developed as vaccine. Lipopolysaccharides from B. suis were administered to the nude mice, in addition to killed vaccine from that species whereas mineral oil was used as an adjuvant. The vaccines from B. suis is considered as smooth strain with smooth dissociation.

Dendritic cell (DC) vaccines are a promising and potent therapeutic tool for chronic diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancer because of the unique ability of DCs to stimulate T cells. The challenge of DC vaccines is to find an effective form for antigen presentation.
